Job Description

Job Description

You will design new specialized fastening products from customer requirement through qualification and production release. A typical project starts with a customer inquiry, runs through design, analysis, prototyping, design review, and ends with you coordinating the handoff to the shop floor. Our experimental machine shop and test lab are on site, so you will design parts, have them made, and test them without leaving the building.

Your work will include design ownership of new products, sustaining assigned legacy product lines, supporting MRB, guiding manufacturing improvements on the floor, and answering technical questions in support of sales.

Responsibilities
  • Design new products and modify existing designs to meet customer requirements, from concept through production release.
  • Create part and assembly models, prepare detailed drawings, and maintain PDM records in SolidWorks.
  • Perform engineering analysis using FEA and hand calculations to validate designs.
  • Work directly with customers to define requirements and resolve technical questions.
  • Partner with manufacturing and quality to ensure designs are producible and inspectable against our actual capabilities, and support MRB dispositions and process troubleshooting.
  • Plan and evaluate prototype and qualification testing; write test plans, test reports, and analysis reports.
  • Manage project schedules and keep internal and customer stakeholders aligned.

Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience.
  • Fluency in parametric CAD. We use SolidWorks; strong CATIA, NX, Creo, or Inventor users are welcome to apply and expected to ramp quickly.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace materials: Titanium alloys, nickel superalloys, corrosion-resistant steels
  • FEA: Ability to independently set up and execute studies under defined boundary conditions, and to defend the assumptions behind them. We use SolidWorks Simulation Premium.
  • Ability to apply, interpret, and communicate GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer drawings, requirements documents, procurement specifications, material and finish specifications, and industry part standards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior aerospace or defense product development and qualification experience.
  • Familiarity with precision fastener manufacturing: machining, thread rolling, thread locking, heat treatment, NDT.
  • Experience with nonlinear FEA and judgment on when it is warranted.
  • Scripting or automation experience applied to engineering workflows.
  • Named inventor on a patent.
  • Tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Hands-on mechanical testing experience: fixture design, instrumentation, and interpreting test data against design intent.
