Job Summary
In this role, the Mechanical Design Engineer frequently works independently to identify and perform tasks as required to meet Vistra objectives. This role supports the gathering and analysis of information necessary for Vistra initiatives or to solve complex problems. The position will develop and maintain effective working relationships with others including external to the company.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide innovative engineering solutions for difficult problems.
  • Assess and resolve potential conditions adverse to quality.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with established expectations for nuclear safety and personnel safety.
  • Requires regular walkdowns of systems to gather information to support design and analysis activities.
  • Develop long-range improvement plans for key plant assets requiring attention such as obsolete equipment, vulnerabilities from OE, and upgrades that would result in operational or financial benefits.
  • Identifies and performs task as required to meet objectives
  • Lead interpretation and analysis of complex issues
  • Coordinates assigned projects, studies and initiatives through completion
  • Comply with safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Prepare and present reports including recommendations to resolve complex issues
  • Participate in and on occasion lead special project and committees
  • Lead complex problem-solving efforts


Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
  • 6 yrs related job experience ideal with at least 3 years in nuclear power plant environment required
  • Extensive knowledge in Mechanical design engineering
  • Knowledge in Mechanical areas such as system and component design, heat transfer and fluid flow analysis.
  • Knowledge of piping system design, including ANSI standards and ASME code requirements.
  • Knowledge of mechanical components design performance characteristics and specifications.
  • Need to be physically able to perform walkdowns requiring use of stairs and ladders.
  • Experience in preparing design changes through development and/or review of calculations, modifications, specifications, and designs
  • Experience in performing10CFR50.59 reviews.
  • Proficient computer skills in standard Windows programs (Excel, Word, etc).
  • Experience running engineering modeling and analysis software and experience with associated software quality assurance requirements
