Full Job Description

Leidos Defense is seeking a Mechanical Cable Designer to help create the critical "nervous system" that connects the advanced hardware we develop to protect America and its allies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of cable assemblies, cable routing, and cable install drawings.
  • Create and maintain Technical Data Package (TDP) artifacts, including drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and specifications.
  • Route electrical cables / wire harnesses using Creo and SolidWorks.
  • Develop cable designs using Visio and AutoCAD, considering connector, backshell, wiring, and protective covering part selection.
  • Produce cable installation drawings and work instructions from 3D routed cable models in Creo and SolidWorks.
  • Support tasks and projects with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Participate in design reviews, peer reviews, drawing reviews, and other technical meetings throughout the product development lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Associate’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience or 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to work onsite at a Leidos facility.
  • Basic understanding of cable design needs.
  • Flexible and capable of switching between tasks and toolsets.
  • Candidates must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Position requires eligibility to obtain and maintain secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with government and industry standards.
  • Background in cable design and/or mechanical design.
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 standards.
  • Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620D.
  • Ability to read and interpret cable wiring diagrams.
  • Hands-on experience in mechanical and/or cable assembly.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
