Description
The Boston College Theology Department invites applications for a senior scholar to serve as the inaugural holder of the Maureen and Craig Sullivan University Professorship. The holder of this new endowed chair will be a scholar who has demonstrated excellence in research and teaching in Catholic theology. A University Professorship is the highest distinction for a faculty member at Boston College. Applicants should be established scholars in their field with a commitment to excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The appointment will be a tenured position at the rank of full Professor, and will begin in July 2027, with teaching duties beginning mid-August 2027.
This position is an appointment within the Theology Department and the successful candidate will participate fully in the academic life of the Department. The faculty member will teach two courses in one semester and one course in the other semester (which by agreement with the Department Chair may include Theology Core courses, graduate seminars, or undergraduate electives) and advise graduate and undergraduate students.
The expected 9-month base salary range (paid over 12 months) for this position is $200,000-$250,000. The actual salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, candidate qualifications and prior experience, scope of responsibilities, internal equity, and market considerations.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D., scholarly expertise in Catholic theology, with openness to candidates in systematic theology, or theological ethics, or history of Christianity, with a distinguished record of publications and teaching experience commensurate with the rank of full Professor with tenure.
