Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Materials Scientist. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Columbus, OH.

Battelle's Advanced Materials and Energetics Group is seeking a motivated Materials Scientist/Engineer to join a team dedicated to translating scientific discovery into real-world impact. The selected candidate will conduct laboratory experimentation, data compilation and analysis, and literature searches under the guidance of a senior scientist.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful research in materials science and engineering, supporting both commercial and government customers in critical and innovative work.

Responsibilities

As a Materials Scientist, the selected individual will support laboratory research and materials experimentation across a range of government and commercial programs. Responsibilities may include:

  • Developing, constructing, and executing laboratory experiments to advance materials research objectives
  • Compiling and analyzing design and test data to prepare product, process, or materials specifications
  • Conducting background research and searching technical literature to support ongoing projects
  • Assisting in the interpretation of experimental results and composing sections of technical reports
  • Analyzing data collected and performing structured engineering work assignments
  • Summarizing and documenting results in spreadsheets, written reports, and presentation formats
  • Completing assigned project work within established schedule and budget constraints

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Chemical Engineering with 2 years of experience or a Master's degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong laboratory and documentation skills
  • Ability to summarize results in spreadsheets, written reports, and presentation formats
  • Experience conducting laboratory work and searching technical literature
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and contextually present information from multiple technical resources to support research objectives
  • Research experience in a materials science, chemistry, or chemical engineering setting, including experience with chemical handling
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain accurate records, and follow instructions
  • Experience in engineering model development
  • Experience working with structured databases for data archiving
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software
  • Experience using computer programming to analyze complex data sets (e.g., Python, MATLAB)

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $66,500 t0 $94,800 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
