Position Summary

The Materials Planner is responsible for translating demand, inventory targets, and production requirements into executable replenishment plans that support customer delivery, inventory health, and operational continuity. This role develops and maintains production schedules, releases and manages internal work orders, coordinates purchase order requirements with Buyers, and ensures replenishment actions are placed, confirmed, tracked, and received on time. The Planner plays a critical role in restoring and maintaining minimum safety stock levels across assigned value streams while proactively identifying material, capacity, supplier, and data constraints that could impact customer commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate daily and weekly production schedules based on customer demand, available capacity, material availability, labor, routings, changeovers, due dates, and value-stream constraints.
  • Translate demand, min/max, safety stock, and MRP signals into timely internal work orders and external purchase order requirements.
  • Release, maintain, and manage internal work orders from creation through completion, ensuring dates, quantities, routings, and material requirements remain accurate.
  • Partner daily with Buyers to execute, confirm, expedite, and track open purchase orders, including supplier confirmations, promise dates, partial shipments, and exception items.
  • Monitor inventory positions against minimum safety stock and replenishment targets; prioritize actions to close shortages and reduce risk to customer orders.
  • Identify and resolve constraints impacting production schedules, work orders, and replenishment plans, including supplier lead time changes, MOQ or pack-size issues, quality holds, engineering changes, capacity limitations, and material shortages.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service to provide accurate order status, recovery plans, and delivery date commitments; support improvement of sales order confirmation cycle time to less than 72 hours.
  • Maintain planning master data accuracy in ERP/MRP, including item planning settings, lead times, safety stock, order multiples, reorder points, sourcing information, and planning policies aligned to PFEP.
  • Support SIOP and demand review activities by providing accurate supply status, inventory risks, capacity concerns, and recovery actions for assigned value streams.
  • Monitor delivery performance, critical shortages, aged work orders, open purchase orders, and schedule adherence; drive timely follow-up and escalation where required.
  • Publish routine reporting on safety stock attainment, replenishment progress, shortage recovery, inventory health, and schedule execution by value stream.
  • Support inventory accuracy through disciplined transaction management, cycle count follow-up, root cause analysis, and correction of recurring planning or data issues.
  • Partner with Operations, Purchasing, Quality, Engineering, and Customer Service to reduce recurring shortages, improve replenishment discipline, and strengthen standard work for planning processes.

Required Qualifications
  • Three or more years of materials planning, production planning, inventory planning, supply planning, or procurement support experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of MRP principles, including lead times, order policies, demand signals, safety stock, min/max levels, reorder points, and order multiples.
  • Experience creating, releasing, and managing production work orders and purchase order requirements.
  • Ability to evaluate material availability, capacity constraints, and inventory risks and translate them into clear action plans.
  • Strong Excel skills, including filters, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis to identify gaps, exceptions, and replenishment priorities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to align Production, Purchasing, Customer Service, Quality, and Engineering on priorities and recovery actions.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with changing priorities while maintaining accuracy, urgency, and professionalism.
  • High attention to detail and strong discipline in maintaining ERP/MRP master data, planning parameters, and transaction accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building, maintaining, or improving min/max, kanban, or other replenishment planning parameters in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing with complex routings, variable demand, and a broad SKU base.
  • Experience coordinating supplier confirmations, lead time updates, expedites, and recovery plans in partnership with Buyers.
  • Exposure to SIOP, capacity planning, finite scheduling, or advanced planning and scheduling tools.
  • Lean or continuous improvement experience, including standard work, daily management, visual controls, problem solving, and root cause corrective action.
  • APICS/ASCM CPIM, CSCP, or related supply chain certification preferred but not required.

Systems & Tools
  • ERP/MRP: NetSuite preferred, or comparable ERP experience with production work orders, item planning parameters, purchase order requirements, and planning modules.
