The Materials Manager is responsible for Purchasing, Scheduling and Inventory planning of the manufacturing site to achieve customer satisfaction, along with efficient production output and inventory objectives. The role is key in capacity planning and constraint management, balancing inventory levels and customer service. In addition, this position is responsible for leading the Procurement Team and developing strategic procurement plans for raw materials, supplies and outside processes / services. The Materials Manager is responsible for ensuring inventory accuracy, achieving assigned KPI's, and ensuring the smooth allocation of production meeting the customer deadlines both internal and external.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Lead the development of the Purchasing and Production plans annually regarding finished goods / raw materials and outside work
- Liaison with Operations Management with regard to machine loading and capacity constraints
- Provide Order Fulfillment and Order Creation support regarding work order delivery dates and communication to the end customer
- Manage raw material purchases negotiating long term material contracts with approved suppliers
- Recommend new suppliers of raw materials and survey their capabilities as an approved supplier
- Plan and manage Inventory levels, liaising with Customer Service and Operations personnel
- Recommend and implement new methods/ processes to reduce cost across the supply chain
- Update and present the Plant Information data for Scrap / Expenditure / Stock adjustments / OTFG / OTD / Material Variances / Hold value, ensuring detailed analysis is in place
- Lead cross functional teams in root cause analysis on poor performing KPI's
- Scrap analysis and system control from internal and external processes using Problem Solving Tools to analyze the data and ensure root cause is realized and corrective actions are implemented
- Process owner for expenditure control by GL, ensuring GL owners are accountable for levels of expense.
- Develops and coaches direct reports on performance and competencies
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Mgmt, Business, or Engineering
- 5 years' experience in planning and scheduling
- 5 years' experience in buying steel strip, sheet, and coil
- 5 years' experience in a leadership role, driving performance and cultural change
- IATF16949/ AS9100 knowledge and awareness
- Broad knowledge of purchasing transactions, contract negotiations, training and development
- Strong technical skills and resourceful in providing alternate options to reduce costs/ improve processes
- Solid knowledge and understanding of the philosophy, principles and objectives of MRP and ERP
- Ability to interpret product, technical and/or contract information
