Job Overview

The Materials Manager is responsible for ensuring the consistent availability of materials and resources required to support production schedules, customer delivery commitments, and inventory objectives for the Meramec facility. This role leads an integrated Materials organization encompassing production planning, scheduling, and purchasing functions, ensuring alignment between customer demand, material availability, manufacturing capacity, and operational performance.

Leveraging SAP and disciplined materials management processes, the Materials Manager will lead planning, purchasing, inventory management, and scheduling activities to ensure materials and resources are available to meet customer demand. This role is responsible for driving supply chain performance, inventory optimization, and material availability to support operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and the facility's long-term business goals.

A Day In The Life

  • Lead and develop a team consisting of Production Planning/Scheduling and Purchasing personnel.
  • Utilize SAP MM and PP functionality to manage material availability and support production requirements.
  • Oversee daily MRP review processes and drive timely resolution of planning and supply chain exceptions.
  • Coordinate production schedules with manufacturing operations to ensure material availability, capacity alignment, and on-time customer delivery.
  • Responsible for inventory levels, inventory accuracy, and inventory turns
  • Establish and maintain planning parameters including lead times, reorder points, safety stock levels, and master data integrity.
  • Partner with suppliers to improve delivery performance, reduce lead times, and mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory optimization, planning accuracy, and process efficiency.
  • Champion SAP process adoption and drive organizational changes necessary to support long-term business objectives.
  • Analyze capacity constraints, material shortages, and customer demand changes to develop proactive action plans.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including schedule attainment, inventory performance, supplier delivery, material shortages, and customer service metrics.


What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or related field required.
  • 7+ years experience in materials management, supply chain, production planning, purchasing, or manufacturing operations.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing planning, purchasing, scheduling, or materials organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational transformation, departmental restructuring, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Required experience utilizing SAP within manufacturing environments, including Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), and Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
  • Proven experience leading or supporting ERP implementation, deployment, or stabilization efforts.
  • Strong understanding of production planning, inventory control, supplier management, and capacity planning principles.
  • Experience within a make-to-order (MTO) manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to analyze complex business situations and translate ERP data into actionable business decisions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and change management skills.
  • APICS/ASCM certifications (CPIM, CSCP, or related certifications) preferred.
