ResponsibilitiesShipping and Logistics ManagementThe manager oversees all outbound shipments, ensuring that packaging, labeling, and documentation meet customer, regulatory, and quality standards (including AS9100 and FAA regulations) . Responsibilities include coordinating freight or carrier services, managing compliance and customs documentation, and ensuring shipments are accurate and on time .
Receiving and Inventory ControlThe role involves supervising all inbound shipments, inspecting and verifying materials, updating inventory transactions in ERP systems including expedited critical orders, and maintaining accurate inventory through cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation efforts. Managers also maintain proper storage and traceability for raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, tooling, and flight-critical hardware.
Compliance and Quality AssuranceManagers ensure adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements, enforcing shelf-life control, proper handling, and documentation like certifications and packing slips. They support internal and external audits, maintaining records for traceability, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Team LeadershipThey lead and train shipping, receiving, hardware & cycle counters personnel, assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, and enforce procedures. Promoting safety, accountability, and continuous improvement is critical. Managers address performance issues and foster professional development within the team.
Cross-Functional CoordinationThe manager works with Production, Quality, Purchasing, Engineering, and Customer Service teams to ensure materials are received and delivered efficiently, support production schedules, resolve discrepancies, and communicate delays or risks to stakeholders.
Process Improvement and Technology UseKey responsibilities include identifying efficiency improvements, analyzing shipping and receiving metrics (such as on-time delivery and inventory accuracy), implementing standard operating procedures, and utilizing ERP, Microsoft Office, and carrier platforms.
Fleet ManagementA Fleet Manager oversees the vehicles, maintenance, compliance driver supervision, and overall fleet performance to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. This includes managing preventive maintenance, regulatory compliance (e.g., FMCSA), fuel usage, vendor contracts, scheduling, and data analysis to optimize fleet utilization. You will work with Penske, who is contracted by Howmet.
Additional Duties- Preparing shipping documents, labeling, and tracking shipments.
- Maintaining clean, organized, and safe warehouse environments.
- Implementing cost-reduction measures in shipping, receiving, and inventory processes.
QualificationsQualifications and SkillsTypically, the manager requires a
high school diploma or GED, management experience preferred in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field. Key experience includes management of shipping, receiving, and inventory systems within
aerospace or manufacturing, knowledge of
export regulations (ITAR, FAA, AS9100), ERP proficiency, leadership, and strong communication and organizational skills.
