Job Summary

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Material Planner to join our Material Control group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing material planning support and administration for research-related or production projects of moderate scope, including analysis reporting, expediting, and purchasing. Advises management of the status of work in progress and identifies potential project problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under general direction, this position is responsible for planning administration for tasks of a major research related or production project or larger independent projects including scheduling, budgeting, performance monitoring, analysis, reporting, expediting, personnel planning and purchasing under the guidance of experienced planning and/or project management personnel. Participate with management in the resolution of potential project problems.
  • Provide planning administration to various tasks/projects including scheduling, budgeting, performance monitoring, analysis, reporting, expediting, personnel planning, purchasing and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Keeps management appraised of potential schedule or fiscal problems by tracking, reviewing and evaluating plans, schedules and/or budgets. Analyzes task/project cost and/or schedule variances and informs management. Provides manpower resource planning and allocation.
  • Provides input for developing efficient systems and methods to identify, plan, and schedule overall organizational tasks and objectives. Works with project management and task leaders to develop project organization (work breakdown structure), schedules, budgets, and reporting.
  • Interfaces with operating and support groups (Purchasing, Contracts, Finance, QA) to collect data for preparation of schedules and reports as well as providing status reports to internal and external contacts. Works in close coordination with outside fabricators and processors.
  • May provide work directions to professional staff and/or support personnel.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Additional Functions Other duties assigned or required. We operate on a 9x80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Planning, Engineering, Production Control or a related discipline and six or more years progressive experience in planning, scheduling, budgeting and performance measurement. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a complete understanding of planning principles, theories and concepts as well as ability to understand accounting and manufacturing systems in a research or production environment and to apply advanced planning tools and techniques.
  • Must maintain a well-balanced focus between external and internal customer requirements and possess:
  • The ability to develop and communicate new concepts and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment;
  • Ability to organize, schedule and coordinate work phases;
  • Ability to determine the appropriate approach at the project level and provide innovative solutions to a range of moderately complex technical problems;
  • Organization skills to maintain flow of work within the unit;
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interface with internal employees and external representatives and to accurately document, report and present;
  • Ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information; and
  • Knowledge of computer operations and applications and word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to obtain TS or SCI security clearance to support classified programs
  • Ability to work both independently and lead in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
