Master HVAC Technician • Facilities Support Services

Location: Fort Meade, MD

Position Summary

LAUKOA is seeking a qualified Master HVAC Technician to support facilities operations at Fort Meade, Maryland. This position performs advanced preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repair, installation, testing, and operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related building control systems in Government-owned facilities. The selected candidate will support reliable facility operations while ensuring HVAC systems are maintained in accordance with contract requirements, manufacturer recommendations, applicable codes, and established safety procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Diagnose and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and associated mechanical and control systems.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair air handling units, rooftop units, split systems, chillers, boilers, pumps, motors, exhaust systems, and related HVAC equipment.
  • Support operation, monitoring, and adjustment of HVAC systems to maintain proper temperature, humidity, and building conditions.
  • Perform HVAC testing, diagnostics, equipment adjustments, and operational checks to ensure proper system performance.
  • Support building automation system (BAS) operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and coordination as applicable.
  • Provide recommendations, scopes of work, bills of materials, and status updates for identified deficiencies, corrective maintenance, and project work.
  • Respond to service calls and complete assigned work orders in a timely manner.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, sequences of operation, and technical manuals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of completed work, labor, refrigerant usage, equipment status, and materials.
  • Receive, update, and close out HVAC-related work orders in the CMMS.
  • Coordinate with other maintenance personnel, subcontractors, and Government representatives to support facility operations and maintenance activities.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic instruments, recovery equipment, and trade-specific equipment safely.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas while complying with all environmental, safety, security, and contract requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess a current Master HVAC license recognized by the State of Maryland or a reciprocal jurisdiction acceptable to the State, if required by law.
  • Possess a valid EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience performing commercial or institutional HVAC maintenance and repair.
  • Experience maintaining HVAC systems in commercial, industrial, institutional, or Government facilities.
  • Experience troubleshooting HVAC equipment, refrigeration systems, mechanical systems, and related controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC drawings, schematics, specifications, sequences of operation, and technical documentation.
  • Experience using a CMMS, work order system, or similar tracking system preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced working knowledge of commercial HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical systems, and building automation controls.
  • Knowledge of applicable mechanical codes, EPA refrigerant requirements, industry standards, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Ability to diagnose complex HVAC system malfunctions and perform effective repairs.
  • Ability to support preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and facility operations across multiple HVAC system types.
  • Basic computer skills sufficient to receive work assignments, update CMMS records, enter data, and complete required documentation.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary facilities support team.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and support to other maintenance personnel as needed.

Security Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain an active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, materials, refrigerant cylinders, parts, and equipment consistent with the duties of the position.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work from elevated platforms, kneel, bend, crawl, and work in confined or restricted spaces.
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, equipment areas, and occupied Government facilities.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding HVAC maintenance and repair activities for extended periods.

Wage Rate
  • Between $70.00- $87.00 per hour (includes $5.09 of Health & Welfare)

Wage Rate
  • Between $70.00 - $87.00 per hour
  • An additional $5.09 per hour up to 40 hrs per week for H&W per WD 2015-4265
