At the university, the Marketing and Communications function is responsible for enhancing and protecting the university's reputation. The marketing function specifically leads through advertising and promotion, while developing governance, protocols and templates to uphold consistent, unified and effective marketing activities across campus.
The Marketing Specialist, CEE Marketing is a professional marketing role responsible for planning, delivering and optimizing marketing initiatives that support Co-operative and Experiential Education priorities. The role applies specialized marketing knowledge and professional judgment to develop, implement and refine integrated marketing activities across campaigns, content, events, digital channels and audience engagement initiatives. Working within established marketing strategy, governance and standards, the role ensures marketing activities are coordinated, audience-focused and aligned with institutional positioning, brand frameworks and business objectives.
Within CEE, the role independently plans and delivers integrated marketing initiatives that promote Waterloo's co-operative education and experiential learning programs. Collaborates and works closely with CEE stakeholders, the role develops and executes marketing campaigns and audience engagement initiatives that support prospective and current students, employers, partners and other audiences, while ensuring alignment with institutional marketing strategy, brand standards and CEE priorities.
Key AccountabilitiesCEE Marketing and Audience Engagement- Develops and delivers marketing initiatives that support Co-operative and Experiential Education priorities, including prospective and current students, employers, partners and experiential learning audiences.
- Applies specialized knowledge of the co-operative education, work-integrated learning and experiential education environment to inform marketing approaches and audience engagement strategies.
- Develops audience-focused content, messaging and marketing materials that promote programs, services, opportunities and outcomes related to Co-operative and Experiential Education.
- Translates complex academic, employer and experiential learning information into clear, relevant and compelling marketing content for diverse audiences.
- Adapts marketing approaches, messaging and content to address the unique needs, interests and motivations of prospective students, current students, employers and external partners.
- Supports promotion of the University's co-operative education and experiential learning value proposition through integrated marketing activities and audience engagement initiatives.
- Identifies emerging audience needs, market considerations and engagement opportunities within the co-operative education and experiential learning environment to support marketing effectiveness.
Marketing Planning and Delivery- Develops marketing plans for assigned initiatives, campaigns and audience engagement activities aligned with institutional objectives.
- Translates project requirements, audience needs and marketing priorities into coordinated activities and deliverables.
- Leads delivery of assigned marketing work, ensuring alignment with scope, timelines and intended outcomes.
- Applies marketing knowledge and professional judgment to adapt approaches based on audience, channel and project requirements.
- Supports achievement of marketing objectives through effective planning, coordination and execution.
- Identifies implementation challenges and recommends practical solution s to support delivery objectives
Brand Stewardship and Marketing Governance- Applies and reinforces institutional brand standards, messaging frameworks, accessibility requirements, and marketing guidelines.
- Exercises judgment in adapting marketing content and approaches while maintaining alignment with institutional standards.
- Identifies and addresses issues related to brand application, messaging, accessibility, quality, or audience experience.
- Supports consistent application of governance practices, templates, and marketing frameworks.
- Escalates matters requiring broader review, approval or alignment.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration- Consults with stakeholders, campus partners, and University Relations colleagues to understand objectives, audience needs, priorities and project requirements and align them with integrated marketing initiatives.
- Acts as a primary marketing advisor for assigned projects, aligning inputs, expectations, timelines, and deliverables.
- Provides advice and recommendations to stakeholders regarding marketing strategies, audience considerations, channel selection and implementation requirements.
- Builds productive working relationships to support alignment, collaboration and successful delivery of assigned marketing initiatives.
- Resolves marketing-related issues and stakeholder concerns within established frameworks and delegated authority, escalating as appropriate.
- Balances competing stakeholder priorities, project requirements and timelines to support effective decision-making and delivery.
Marketing Measurement and Effectiveness- Leads the day-to-day delivery of assigned marketing initiatives, ensuring activities, deliverables and stakeholder inputs are aligned to achieve objectives.
- Collaborates with Creative Studio, Digital Experience, Communications, Market Research and other service-line teams to support integrated marketing outcomes.
- Exercises professional judgment to manage competing priorities, resolve implementation challenges and adapt approaches to changing requirements.
- Evaluates campaign performance, audience engagement and marketing results to identify trends, inform recommendations and improve marketing effectiveness.
- Applies audience insight, performance information and stakeholder feedback to optimize marketing activities within assigned areas of responsibility.
Continuous Improvement and Marketing Practices- Develops new tools, templates and processes adopted by the team.
- Recommends improvements to marketing processes, tools, templates and delivery approaches based on performance information, stakeholder feedback and emerging practices.
- Contributes to development and adoption of consistent marketing practices across the team.
- Supports implementation of marketing standards, planning tools and governance practices.
- Maintains awareness of marketing trends, technologies and emerging best practices.
- Contributes to continuous improvement of marketing services and outcomes.
Required Qualifications Education- Undergraduate degree or post-secondary diploma in marketing, communications, business or a related field.
Experience- 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, audience engagement, campaign delivery, communications or a related field.
- Experience developing and executing marketing initiatives across multiple channels and platforms.
- Experience coordinating projects and stakeholders in a complex, multi-functional environment.
- Experience working within established brand standards, marketing frameworks or governance models.
- Experience in higher education, the broader public sector or another complex multi-stakeholder environment is an asset.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Strong knowledge of marketing principles, campaign planning, audience engagement and channel integration.
