What You Will Do:

We are looking for a Marketing Specialist to support scientific communications and outreach initiatives for NIH Office of the Director (OD). This position is a full-time role located in Bethesda, MD.

  • Establish and develop relationships with key stakeholders and public affairs personnel of specialized advocacy groups.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with members of the press and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with other program offices to create outreach and engagement plans.
  • Plan for conferences and continuously seek areas of improvement for the program.
  • Identify opportunities for program leadership to engage with external organizations through speaking opportunities, workshops, and leadership meetings.
  • Develop communication strategies and plans aligned with program objectives, including messaging, audiences, and channels.
  • Research and write strategic communication plans to disseminate scientific research information to key audiences.
  • Prepare written and electronic communications such as press releases, newsletters, web content, and scripts.
  • Develop scientific and technical materials including talking points, FAQs, and educational content for various platforms.
  • Conduct media and content analysis across social media, news sites, and scientific literature; report findings.
  • Monitor effectiveness of media campaigns and analyze survey or analytics data to assess performance.
  • Maintain and update social media and web platforms, including content management and performance reporting.
  • Monitor press coverage and respond to media inquiries, supporting press releases and communications efforts.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences to stay informed on scientific and policy developments.
  • Represent the program at conferences and public engagements, including coordination of exhibits and outreach efforts.
  • Incumbent capture, no other candidates were considered due to incumbent candidate identified. They meet the labor category requirements provided by the customer.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field.
  • Minimum of TWO (2) years of experience with developing and executing communication strategies and scientific/technical writing.
  • Proficiency in creating diverse communication products (e.g., press releases, web content, multimedia scripts).
  • Ability to analyze media, scientific literature, and data to inform communication strategies.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, website content, and digital analytics.
  • Familiarity with web hosting and digital content management tools.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Experience supporting scientific or public health communication initiatives.
  • Knowledge of media relations and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Experience with visual media design, including graphics, photography, or multimedia content creation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical and scientific writing.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools and statistical analysis methods.
  • Exposure to MATLAB or other technical software tools.
  • Experience working in a federal or government-supported environment.

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000.00-$108,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
