General Summary:

The Marketing Event Specialist, Staff is responsible for management/use of event automation technology platforms, as well as planning, development, and execution of event initiatives/projects based on established objectives, strategies, and tactics. Implementation of event marketing elements in overall compliance with the marketing plan in one or more of the following areas: account management, agency management, analysis, channel activities, collateral, creative services, digital services, events, industry relations, localization, market research, merchandising, packaging, premiums, product launches, promotions, programs, public relations, research, sponsorships, trade shows, training, web, technology demonstrations, and other marketing activities. Additional responsibilities include budget, developing processes and metrics, project management, developing and adhering to QUALCOMM brand and digital team guidelines, agency selection and management, third-party partner management, and working cross-functionally (including international offices).

  • Executes events independently or with teams
  • Serves as primary contact on key projects and is instrumental in understanding stakeholders' visions for events that achieve goals and objectives
  • Leverages expertise and demonstrates ability to meet and exceed stakeholders' expectations
  • Oversee all aspects of event functions, ready to step into any role as needed due to client requests, changes in event conditions, and environmental requirements
  • Provides regular communication with project teams, both internal and external, and participates in and offers solutions during cross-functional meetings
  • Produce each event as planned, consistently and completely
  • Perform event manager tasks without noticeable direction and assignments are self-initiated
  • Advanced technical awareness regarding product experiences, electronics, Qualcomm's products, packing, shipping, basic carpentry, and AV equipment
  • Advanced audio visual knowledge, including video, lighting, and stage production, with ability to lead complex requirements with AV vendors and communicate to stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel, including weekends and holidays, as required
  • Able to project manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Works with internal clients to develop scope, vision, budgets, event plans, and execution of events
  • Researches, negotiates, and contracts venues for events
  • Creates menus and coordinates details of food and beverage
  • Sources, negotiates, and manages vendors for staffing, décor, lighting, entertainment, AV, security, promotional items, signage, and transportation
  • Responsible for all event financial tracking including iProc creation and follow-through, POs, invoicing, reporting, and project budget reconciliation
  • Collaborates with internal team members in other departments, events department, and vendor teams on the planning and execution of events
  • Supports other managers and planners as needed for additional planning on larger more complex projects in team environment both in pre-planning and onsite
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, guide, supervise, and support a team by example
  • Demonstrated ability to provide organized, meaningful solutions under less-than-desirable conditions and substantial setbacks
  • Anticipates and stays ahead of delays and unforeseen challenges and helps communicate changes to team
  • Analyzes challenging situations and makes recommendations for how to address issues and drives resolutions
  • Develops creative solutions and plans to implement best practices related to event management techniques while remaining consistent with organizational objectives
  • Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management implementing best practices
  • Applies event experience and industry knowledge to provide guidance on methodology to be used for complex requests, challenges, and situations with stakeholders, partners, and vendors
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style, ensuring all team members are contributing to discussions
  • Budget development and oversight experience
  • Ability to challenge and debate issues of importance to the organization
  • Ability to look at situations from several points of view
  • Persuasive with details and facts


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related work experience.

OR
  • Associate's degree or equivalent degree and 5+ years of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related work experience.

OR
  • High school Diploma or equivalent and 7+ years of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related work experience.


*Completed advanced degrees in a relevant field may be substituted for up to two years (Master's = one year, Doctorate = two years) of work experience.

This is an office based position located in San Diego, CA and is expected to comply with the company's onsite work policy. This is a U.S. based position and is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$106,400.00 - $159,600.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
