Job Description

The Market Surveillance Manager manages the global operation of the Market Surveillance Department. Develops and implements procedures to ensure the appropriate investigation of product incident reports and the resolution of complaints about the safety and integrity of UL product certifications. Ensures that corrective actions are implemented to reduce the probability of reoccurrence of identified safety issues.

Responsibilities

  • Develops industry/discipline specific strategic plans, goals, and budgets for the department.
  • Develops and implements processes and procedures to investigate reports where the non-compliance or failure of UL certified products is alleged.
  • Ensures the product incident report investigations are accurate, consistent and complete when carried out at any organizational facility.
  • Develops and implements procedures to improve the process for investigation of product incident reports.
  • Consults with customers to enhance procedures and processes to increase the level of manufactured products complying with UL requirements.
  • Identifies safety and quality control issues resulting from product incident reports and develops and implements recommendations to address them.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders (Legal team, COU's, Principle Engineers, Quality, Conformity Assessement Governance, etc) to resolve specific standard and industry wide product safety issues.
  • Communicates with external groups, such as government and regulatory agencies on issues of public safety related to market and conformity surveillance activities.
  • Directs the implementation of department strategies by gathering and evaluating input from customers, regulatory authorities, management, staff and other appropriate constituent sources.
  • Manages the performance of direct reports by defining accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing career counseling, feedback and guidance, and ensuring that all policies are understood and adhered to.


Qualifications

  • University Degree (Equivalent to a Bachelors degree) in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology or a related field plus twelve years direct experience in manufacturing, quality control processes, market surveillance, and standards development, and at least five years of relevant management/leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage departmental objectives, staffing and budget.
  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing and the quality control processes.
  • Detailed knowledge of quality control and manufacturing issues, trends and problems.
  • Detailed understanding of ULs safety testing and certification services and strategic initiatives, plans and programs.

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $126,000 to $168,000 USD and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
