Job Description:

  • Responsible for developing, overseeing, and executing operational plans for the comprehensive hospital-based internal risk management program across the NC market.
  • This position incorporates risk identification analysis, trending, and internal claim management oversight for the NC market and related interests.
  • Additionally, this role assumes responsibility and direction for patient safety transformation, leading efforts to develop a culture of safety and identify opportunities to enhance high reliability and patient safety across the NC market.
  • In addition, this position ensures coordination with Corporate Compliance, Legal, Human Resources, department managers, and external agencies as required. Ensures alignment with applicable state statutes and regulations.
  • Conducts thorough assessments to identify areas needing improvement.
  • Analyzes data from patient safety incidents and near misses.
  • Designs a patient safety program with policies, procedures, and protocols aimed at reducing errors and enhancing patient safety.
  • Ensures the program aligns with national and international standards and guidelines.
  • Implements the program across the organization, including training staff and integrating safety practices into daily operations.
  • Continuously monitors the effectiveness of the program through regular audits, feedback, and performance metrics.
  • Evaluates outcomes to identify successes and areas for further improvement. Ensures compliance with standards and guidelines set by regulatory bodies, accreditation organizations, and best practice frameworks.
  • Provides ongoing education and training for staff on patient safety principles and practices.
  • Establishes clear reporting mechanisms for safety incidents and near misses. Communicates findings and improvements to all stakeholders, including staff, patients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Leads a multidisciplinary team to foster a culture of safety.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Skilled in the identification and prevention of potential risks, including complaint resolution. [Required]• Extensive experience in the investigation and analysis of incidents and claims. [Required]• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written. [Required]• Ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, visitors and the community. [Required]• Basic knowledge and ability to work with personal computers and software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Risk Management software applications. [Required]
