Full Job Description
Under the direction of the Regional Chief Nurse Executive, oversees the Detroit Market Region's development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of centralized elements of nursing education to facilitate innovation, efficiency, consistency, and quality outcomes. Functions as the point person for DMC Market and liaison for Tenet System Education communication/roll out/educational design/implementation. Provides design and implementation oversight to designated/select centralized nursing competencies and certifications (e.g. ACLS, annual competencies applicable to all sites /PCS staff such as restraints and blood administration) which are appropriate to be managed at the system level. Provides expert level support to sites in design of site-based orientation and specialty education programs. Oversees a designated team of nurse educators to administer the centralized elements of nursing education. Provides strategic direction and oversight for the operations of the site nursing education staff and educational activities. Maintains a matrix reporting relationship with site Nursing Education staff. Provides oversight for the continuing education credit process. Establishes goals for PCS education department / staff and facilitates achievement and system program planning. Implements departmental, institutional and market goals and ensures objectives are met. Supervises and evaluates the performance of educators and facilitates their individual growth and development, providing access to resources / training. Delegates responsibility and authority to facilitate project completion. Conducts regular staff meetings using a shared decision-making approach. Interviews, selects, evaluates, disciplines and terminates subordinate personnel in accordance with human resources policies. Uses systematic approaches and appropriate measurement methods to assess and develop competence of nurse educators. Provides direction, consultation, coaching, and mentoring to nurse educators and acts as a role model in building supportive and collaborative work relationships with others. Develops operating and capital budget for education. Monitors monthly indicators. Reassigns staff / educators as necessary for optimal delivery of quality education within budgetary constraints. Utilizes nursing / health care / Joint Commission / ISO / and other regulatory agency standards and current practice trends in developing educational activities. Develops / revises / polices for education related activities aimed at improving clinical competencies of nursing staff and enhancing leadership development. Uses performance improvement activities to ensure quality outcomes for department.
Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in Nursing. Master's Degree in Nursing Education or post-MSN education certificate preferred.
2. Five years of related experience in nursing education and program design, which may be concurrent clinical, educational and/or progressively more responsible management experience.
3. Demonstrated competence in curriculum or program development and evaluation.
4. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the sate of Michigan.
