Full Job Description
The Position

Market Development Leader

At Roche, we are passionate about transforming patients' lives and are bold in both decision and action. We believe that good business means a better world. This is why we come to work each day, committed to scientific rigor, unassailable ethics, and ensuring access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.

The Opportunity

As the Market Development Leader, you will play a pivotal role in driving cutting-edge scientific collaborations and defining the global market expansion strategy for our sequencing ecosystem. Instead of traditional, reductive portfolio management, this role utilizes divergent strategic thinking to "bake a bigger pie"—pumping air into the funnel to explore how large a market opportunity can become. You will act as an upstream pipeline builder, a facilitator, and an integrator across the scientific community, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and internal stakeholders to cultivate a thriving, research and translational ecosystem.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Ecosystem Mapping & Expansion

  • Utilize creative thinking to expand the market horizon, identifying emergent research areas where SBX technology is a good match.

  • Map out, foster, and capitalize on opportunities in the translational and basic research space.

  • Execute high-level technological mapping to match sequencer capabilities with emerging research niches, identifying the "greatest fit" for market expansion.

Pipeline Fueling & Lifecycle Integration

  • Interview and collaborate with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to forecast where the genomic and sequencing fields are moving.

  • Gathers, refines, analyzes, and prioritizes unique product requirements from the scientific community to build robust requirements for innovative or revolutionary new products.

  • Contribute to and update the relevant chapters of Design Control, including the Product Requirements Document (PRD) to bridge research needs back to the organization.

  • Perform ROI analysis on "placed bets" within the research community to determine long-term returns for the broader organization.

Cross-Functional Team Leadership

  • Provide cross-functional leadership to project teams responsible for executing market cultivation activities.

  • Motivate and inspire the team to achieve ambitious goals, fostering a positive environment of trust, transparent communication, and unconventional ideas.

  • Highly effective at communicating requirements, capabilities, and deliverables internally and externally across a complex global matrix environment.

Who You Are

You are a visionary, growth-oriented leader with a deep scientific background who acts as a true "Product Champion." You are passionate about leveraging innovative technology to transform patient lives, operating comfortably in highly ambiguous environments to drive high-impact, high-value deliverables.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s or PhD preferred in Molecular Biology or a highly relevant technical topic.

  • Experience: 6+ years of total leadership experience, with a strong background in biotech, pharma, and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).

  • Mindset: Possesses a distinct "Researcher Mindset" with a peer-level understanding of how the scientific community uses sequencing technology.

  • Commercial & Strategic Acumen: Demonstrated experience in life science and tools market development, product positioning, and translating complex science into compelling market narratives.

  • Leadership Track Record: Proven ability to manage, influence, and drive complex cross-functional teams without direct authority within a matrixed global environment.
