Position at The Port Authority of NY & NJ

About the Role

This position is based at the New Jersey Marine Terminals (NJMT). Work hours for this position are set at 9 AM - 5 PM for operational coverage. The successful candidate must be able to respond to any NJMT facility for all emergencies including those that are weather-related, and any other declared agency or facility emergency. The selected candidate may be called upon to fill operational gaps as needed which may include the Howland Hook facility in Staten Island, NY, at the discretion of the General Manager and/or Deputy General Manager.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Port Operations, the selected candidate will be responsible for:
  • Overseeing and monitoring the operations of tenants based in Port Newark, the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal, and the Port Jersey-Port Authority Marine Terminal to ensure compliance with security requirements, lease agreements, and the Port Authority Marine Terminals Tariff FMC Schedule No. PA 10.
  • Monitoring and coordinating the operations and activities of a variety of tenants including terminal operators, bulk shipment operators, auto processors, and/or warehouse tenants to ensure compliance with established agreements, regulations, and procedures.
  • Managing all construction scheduling & notifications for New Jersey Marine Terminals (NJMT); leading the weekly construction coordination call and bi-monthly facility coordination meetings; coordinating support from Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) and scheduling Everbridge messaging to notify Port stakeholders.
  • Monitoring roadway conditions and proactively working with PAPD to offer recommended mitigation strategies and contacting Port stakeholders.
  • Overseeing the New Jersey Marine Terminals Food Truck operations, ensuring compliance with internal procedures to effectively serve the port community.
  • Conducting facility inspections ensuring safety and security compliance and operational standards are upheld.
  • Serving as a Business Continuity Planner for Port Newark and Elizabeth Port Authority Marine Terminals, responsible for annual reviews of the New Jersey Marine Terminals Business Continuity Plan and coordination with Agency Business Continuity.
  • Issuing tenant space bills, in accordance with rates published in the Port Authority Marine Terminal Tariff.
  • Managing NJMT vacant spaces; coordinating tenant move-in and move-out surveys and transferring utility accounts.
  • Leading efforts to update NJMT facility maps annually.
  • Conducting facility tours and providing information on facility activities to visitors as necessary.
  • Leading the NJMT Bi-Annual Census.
  • Special projects and assignments as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college OR at least two years of relevant work experience in maritime transportation, logistics, business, public administration or other related field.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a Federal Security Background check and obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) to work in a maritime environment as required by the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Selected candidate will be required to obtain Certification as a Facility Security Officer within 6 months.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey anticipates that the actual salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on aspects such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal factors. The expected compensation range for this role is:

Minimum: $66,482 Midpoint: $86,436 Maximum: $106,392

In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits employees to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business, and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required on business needs.
