  • A competitive salary with performance bonus opportunities.
  • Comprehensive healthcare benefits, including medical, vision, dental, and orthodontia coverage.
  • A substantial retirement plan with no vesting schedule.

  • A positive work environment where employees are respected, supported, and engaged.

Position Overview

Prescient Edge is seeking a Marine Systems Engineer to support U.S. Navy Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MUSV) acceptance, integration, test, modernization, and lifecycle engineering activities. This is a platform-level, system-as-a-whole role focused on understanding the vessel as an integrated system and how its major subsystems work together. The engineer will apply systems engineering principles across marine mechanical, electrical, electronic, control, communications, software, and autonomy-related subsystems to assess cross-subsystem interfaces, interoperability, vessel readiness, and overall system performance; resolve technical issues; and support safe, reliable, mission-capable USV operations.

Key Responsibilities

Marine Systems Engineering & Integration
  • Evaluate marine platform, subsystem, and interface requirements and support integration of propulsion, steering, power, auxiliary, electrical/electronic, communications, control, payload, and autonomy-related systems.
  • Assess physical, electrical, data, software, and control interfaces among vessel systems, mission payloads, autonomy/control systems, and shore-side support equipment.
  • Analyze system performance, interoperability, reliability, maintainability, and readiness issues and develop practical technical recommendations and corrective-action approaches.
  • Review and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, interface documentation, technical manuals, system specifications, and engineering procedures.

Technical Analysis, Troubleshooting & Lifecycle Support
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, communications, software, sensor, and control-system issues affecting MUSV operation and acceptance.
  • Apply engineering judgment to evaluate vessel propulsion, steering, fluid, cooling, power-generation/distribution, energy-storage, navigation, communications, sensor, and auxiliary systems.
  • Support configuration management, engineering change evaluation, technical documentation, software/firmware baseline control, and lifecycle sustainment activities.
  • Coordinate with Government engineers, operators, logisticians, vendors, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and maintenance personnel to resolve technical deficiencies and improve system reliability and maintainability.

Test, Acceptance & Verification
  • Support system integration, operational test, acceptance, inspection, and readiness events in laboratory, waterfront, shipboard, and field environments.
  • Develop, review, or execute test procedures; capture objective evidence; document discrepancies; evaluate corrective actions; and support verification of implemented solutions.
  • Assess test results and technical data to determine system performance, compliance, residual risk, and readiness for follow-on integration or operations.
  • Provide clear technical findings, recommendations, and status updates to engineering, program, and operational stakeholders.

Project & Team Integration
  • Support technical planning, schedule coordination, risk identification, requirements traceability, and engineering workflow improvement for MUSV acceptance and lifecycle activities.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, technical reports, configuration records, issue summaries, and decision-support materials.
  • Communicate effectively with integrated Government-contractor teams and help drive technical actions through resolution.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's-level degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years of professional systems engineering or closely related multidisciplinary engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex systems that integrate mechanical, electrical/electronic, controls, communications, software, sensors, or related subsystems.
  • Working knowledge of marine or comparable vehicle/platform systems, including propulsion, steering, power, auxiliaries, sensors, communications, and integrated control systems.
  • Ability to perform technical analysis, troubleshoot cross-domain system issues, interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, and communicate technically sound recommendations.
  • Experience supporting system integration, test and evaluation, inspection, acceptance, verification, or lifecycle engineering activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively within an integrated Government-contractor-engineering team.
  • Ability to meet applicable SECRET clearance, safety, security, site-access, and physical requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting unmanned surface vehicles, autonomous systems, maritime robotics, military boats/craft, or comparable complex platforms.
  • Experience with marine diesel, electric, hybrid-electric, or battery-powered propulsion and associated power-generation/distribution systems.
  • Experience with marine navigation, communications, radar, electro-optical/infrared sensors, remote command-and-control, data acquisition, or autonomy-related systems.
  • Experience with configuration management, technical data packages, engineering change processes, reliability-centered maintenance, or lifecycle sustainment.
  • Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), embedded controllers, vessel-monitoring systems, IP networking, software/firmware deployment, or system-log analysis.
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline or directly relevant advanced technical education.

Travel / Work Environment
  • Approximately 25-50% travel is expected, depending on test schedules, operational requirements, and mission needs. Travel may include multi-day or extended support at customer, waterfront, shipboard, remote, and operational test locations. The position primarily supports engineering, integration, inspection, and test activities in laboratory, pier-side, shipboard, industrial, field, and outdoor maritime environments. Candidates must be comfortable with periodic travel, changing schedules, adverse weather, and supporting vessel operations and test events as required.

Location
  • Norfolk, VA.
