JOB SUMMARY: Directs and coordinates the day-to-day shift activities, by providing leadership and supervision to subordinates and serves as the link between direct reports and middle/upper management. They understand and align business operations and the Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products, utilizing knowledge of production processes and methods, machine and equipment capabilities, and human resource requirements and capabilities.
  • Makes decisions on job assignments and work priorities.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays and downtime.
  • Responsible for equipment condition and department housekeeping.
  • Researches, compiles and prepares reports, correspondence, and other information required by management, as well as identifies and resolves report discrepancies or errors.
  • Works with employees to maintain a safe work environment. Leads and supports subordinates to work in a safe manner and to seek improvements in work practices.
  • Ensures that product quality and production efficiencies meet or exceed established standards.
  • Examines procedures and recommends changes to save time, labor, and other costs and to improve quality control and operating efficiency.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of support resources such as quality, maintenance, shipping and receiving, and technical trainers.
  • Observes subordinates to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  • Verifies completeness and accuracy of subordinates' work, computations, and records.
  • Participates in work of subordinates to facilitate productivity or overcome difficult aspects of work.
  • Instructs subordinates in job duties or arranges for training to be provided.
  • Facilitates team meetings, intervenes as necessary to keep the team's goals and results consistent with company direction, and works with the team members to develop their full potential.
  • Initiates and conducts personnel actions such as discipline, performance evaluations, and payroll.
  • Evaluates subordinate job performance and recommends appropriate personnel action.
  • Administer, communicate and interpret work procedures and company policies to subordinates
  • Provides subordinates with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems and in resolving grievances or submits unsettled disputes to management.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience operating hand jacks, electric pallet jacks and forklifts and clamp trucks preferred.
  • Leadership skills - ability to motivate people to perform at high levels.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent experience in a converting facility is required.
  • Experience and knowledge of roll stock cutting machines, printing presses, die cutting machines, and straight-line gluers is preferred.


SKILLS:
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.


  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


  • REASONING ABILITY - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


  • COMPUTER/OFFICE EQUIPMENT SKILLS - SAP, MS Office and database programs; requires use of all general office equipment (e.g. fax, copier, telephone, etc.).


  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Company issued Fork Truck Operator's License; Company issued Clamp Truck Operator's License.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:
  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Must be willing to work a rotating shift, as the business needs dictate.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Standing occasionally and walking and sitting frequently, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Ability to climb, twist neck and back, and finger frequently (34-66% of the time).
  • Ability to balance, stoop, bend, squat, twist, handle, feel, reach above shoulder and at or below shoulder, reach over 18", reach to the floor, kneel and drive occasionally (1-33% of the time).
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally (1-33% of the time).
  • Requires use of both feet on an occasional basis for walking, climbing stairs, and possibly ladders.
  • Requires use of both hands for simple grasping (frequently) and pushing/pulling (occasionally) for purposes of going through production reports, holding a clipboard, and inspecting equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to read, write, hear, see, speak and have agility on a continuous basis.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature and loud noises.
  • PPE required: Steel-toed/safety footwear, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Cut resistant Safety Gloves, Hair Net, Beard Net.
