Job Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Off Shift Superintendent is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and operational support across manufacturing activities during the overnight shift. This role serves as the senior on-site operational leader, ensuring safety, quality, production, and customer service objectives are achieved while maintaining effective communication between shifts and functional departments.

The Off Shift Superintendent does not have direct supervisory responsibility for off-shift Production Supervisors. Instead, the role acts as a key resource and escalation point, partnering with supervisors and providing guidance, coordination, and decision-making support related to production execution, quality concerns, staffing needs, material availability, and operational priorities.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Leadership

· Serve as the senior operational leader on third shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations.

· Coordinate production activities to support daily output, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.

· Monitor production performance and proactively address issues that could impact safety, quality, productivity, or customer service.

· Facilitate cross-functional decision-making to maintain operational continuity during off-shift hours.

· Ensure adherence to established policies, procedures, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.

Support of Production Supervisors

· Act as a resource and advisor to third-shift Production Supervisors.

· Provide guidance regarding production priorities, labor utilization, schedule adherence, and issue resolution.

· Assist supervisors in evaluating and responding to operational challenges and unexpected production disruptions.

· Foster collaboration and alignment across departments without direct supervisory authority.

· Escalate significant operational, quality, staffing, or equipment issues as appropriate.

Quality Coordination

· Partner with Quality personnel and production teams to address quality concerns and customer requirements.

· Support investigation and containment activities related to nonconforming products or process deviations.

· Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the shift and that issues are effectively communicated to leadership.

· Promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Supply Chain & Material Flow Coordination

· Coordinate with Materials and Warehouse teams to support production schedules.

· Assist in resolving material shortages, inventory discrepancies, and shipping or receiving challenges that impact operations.

· Support prioritization of production requirements based on customer demand and available resources.

· Ensure appropriate communication of material-related issues to daytime stakeholders.

Safety & Compliance

· Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

· Respond to safety incidents, coordinate investigations, and support corrective actions as needed.

· Conduct facility walkthroughs and identify Zero Harm opportunities to improve workplace safety and housekeeping.

· Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.

Communication & Continuous Improvement

· Provide comprehensive shift summaries and communicate key issues to plant leadership and incoming shifts.

· Lead or participate in daily operational reviews and shift handoff processes.

· Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, communication, and operational performance.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of best practices.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY:

1. Demonstrates EHS leadership by setting a good example

2. Trains and instructs employees so they can perform their work safely.

3. Instructs employees on what personal protective equipment is needed

4. Ensure associates are trained in the safe use of equipment, material, and chemicals they will be using.

5. Enforces safe work practices and procedures and encourages workers to identify unsafe or unhealthy workplace conditions or hazards without fear of discipline

6. Takes immediate steps to correct unsafe or unhealthy workplace hazards and ensure corrective measures are completed in a timely manner

7. Ensures employees are aware and follow all safety rules

8. Makes sure employee concerns related to EHS are addressed and contacts the EHS Department if assistance is needed

9. Ensures employees report accidents and injuries immediately

10. Is involved in the accident/incident investigation program and provides corrective actions in a timely manner

11. Ensures and promotes continual improvement and safety performance through key performance indicators.

12. Ensures that Supervisor is involved and working with the employee in the RTW program

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

· Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field preferred.

· Equivalent combination of education and manufacturing leadership experience may be considered.

Experience

· 5+ years of manufacturing, operations, or production leadership experience.

· Experience supporting multiple departments in a fast-paced production environment.

· Experience with quality systems, production scheduling, and supply chain coordination preferred.

· Previous experience in a superintendent, operations manager, production manager, or senior supervisory role preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Strong leadership and influence skills without relying on direct authority.

· Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and drive issue resolution.

· Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and supply chain operations.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

· Proficiency with ERP (Baan and/or SAP), production reporting, and Microsoft Office applications.
