Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer located at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH working with the Air Force Division.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS 

  • This position is a hybrid position that requires a limited set (< 5yrs) training and/or expeirence in the fields of Manufacturing/Structural/Civil Engineering Quality Assurance Engineer
  • Has the knowledge, experience and demonstrated ability to perform tasks related to the technical/professional discipline they are performing. 
  • Typically works independently and applies the proper procedures and processes related to their area of expertise.
  • Has the ability to problem solve and troubleshoot various situations to develop successful outcomes within established program/project guidelines.
  • Work is performed independently or under the oversight of more senior contractor employees. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and assess defect prevention strategies and processes for development, production, and deployment of hardware and support facilities.  
  • Perform QA analyses to ensure hardware systems and support facilities being acquired by AFLCMC can be produced by controlled manufacturing processes at manageable risk to cost, schedule, or user satisfaction.
  • Conduct special studies and analyze broad QA issues common to all AFLCMC acquisition programs, including:  Discrete investigations of issues using such methods and tools as process variability reduction; statistical process/quality control; defect prevention; metrology; non-destructive evaluation, and; QA, or automated inspection. 
  • Review and assess the weapon system contractor QA planning and progress. 
  • Evaluate the quality system of the weapon system prime contractor/subcontractor or depot, to the degree it impacts the system being acquired and assess the quality planning, discipline, and effectiveness, including weapon system prime contractor / subcontractor use of advanced quality tools, techniques and systems. 
  • Analyze weapon system prime weapon system contractor / subcontractor strategies, plans, and activities to identify opportunities for improvement. 
  • Assist in identification and analysis of major cost/risk trade-offs and life-cycle cost considerations.
  • Assist in and support quality audits to include hardware audits.  The Contractor shall assist in hardware quality evaluations by disassembly, inspection and test of a representative unit of production to the assembly level.
  • Provide support to prepare a description of broad quality strategies for defect prevention covering product and process design, production, and deployment. 
  • Determine appropriate program QA requirements and prepare descriptions of tasks for inclusion in the contract PWS. 
  • Provide QA inputs to initial test planning for hardware.
  • Provide oversight, administer, evaluate, and make recommendations to the International Standards Organization and AS9100 based conversion installation QA plan with practices and procedures designed to ensure that products and equipment conform to USAF or country-specific TCTO.

     Additional Responsibilities

  • Support application of knowledge and experience in engineering principles, criteria, and procedures to USAF systems, subsystems, and equipment procurement activities, post-award project/program management tasks, and acquisition programs throughout their life cycles. 
  • Aapply an understanding of DoD, USAF and common engineering / scientific principles, processes and procedures to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future USAF and joint service weapon systems.
  • Assist in translating user requirements into weapon system requirements, which will be used to design, develop, fabricate, test and evaluate weapon systems, subsystem and equipment for eventual fielding and deployment.
  • Provide support to produce or review products that include the following:  technical evaluations/plans; engineering studies, reports and analyses; and acquisition strategies/plans such as:  ICD; ORD/CDD; CONOPS; CPD; System Requirements Document (SRD); System Specification; RFPs; System Engineering Plan (SEP); Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP); program environment, safety, and occupational health evaluation; information support plan; Program Protection Plan (PPP); Technology Assessment/Control Plan (TA/CP); cybersecurity strategy (formally information assurance strategy); Security Classification Guide (SCG); Alternative Live Fire T&E Plan; Clinger-Cohen Act compliance; consideration of technology issues; DM strategy; chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear survivability assessments; net-centric data strategy; spectrum supportability determination; technical data rights strategy; technology readiness assessment; manufacturing readiness assessment, and; other program/technical documents as required.
  • Support the F-15 Division in the performance of disciplined engineering activities to assure Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) for all products.  The Contractor shall follow the Life Cycle Systems Engineering (LCSE) and OSS&E related AFIs and all lower-level supplements and related documents including applicable Operating Instructions (OI).
  • Assist with establishing, implementing and adhering to LCSE processes to ensure OSS&E compliance is achieved and maintained.
  • Ascertain the implementation status of the SEP throughout program operations and notify the USAF of pertinent shortfalls or gaps for which corrective action may be needed.
  • Help support the Mechanical System Integrity (SI) Program, maintain and update the Critical Safety Item list, and monitor airworthiness certification for F-15 Division aircraft.
  • Participate in value stream mapping activities and Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century (AFSO21) Program Facilitation.  The Contractor shall understand the AFSO21 initiative and shall be able to apply and facilitate performance improvement events and actions to ensure the use of best engineering practices.
  • Advise the F-15 Division on engineering determinations of acceptable substitutes when parts obsolescence occurs.
