Job Description: Manufacturing Process EngineerLocation:Wixom, MI, 48393
Job Summary:This position is responsible for creating and maintaining innovative, accurate and robust precision manufacturing processes for highly complex Aerospace and Industrial Gas Turbine Engine components. Working with all levels of the organization, this individual will support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects within Engineering and aid in the continuous improvement activities for legacy products.
Job Duties:- Develop the initial Manufacturing Plan based on customer part print and other specification and quality requirements.
- Develop fully detailed manufacturing router laying out every operation required to produce a given part.
- Create computer generated 3D solid models from customer supplied part prints.
- Create detailed operation sheets in SolidWorks which fully describe the part at every step of the process.
- Initiate internal technical reviews to communicate process intent with all stakeholders, achieving full buy-in prior to release to manufacturing floor.
- Assist Tool Design in developing work-holding and gaging concepts for each manufacturing process operation.
- Work with Quality Engineering to define proper gaging and inspection techniques for each part characteristic.
- Support manufacturing in the set-up and debug of all of the machining operations specified in the process.
- Work with Customers and Suppliers to achieve intended product quality and delivery.
- Assist Quality Engineering in preparation of FAI packages and resolving customer issues.
- Perform detailed continuous improvement reviews using best practices and lean tools working to drive out cost from every process step.
- Assists in troubleshooting problems on the shop floor utilizing knowledge and experience in CNC programming, machine/fixture design and appropriate cutting tool applications.
Required Skills:- Experience with SolidWorks and / or other 3D parametric design software.
- Hands-on machining knowledge in typical aerospace materials (Inco, Titanium, Stainless Steel).
- Fixture / Gage / Cutting Tool design experience.
- A basic understanding of CNC/CMM programming and its' proper application.
- Strong print reading ability with a thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Familiarity with various aerospace specific special processes such as brazing, plating, heat treat, NDT, etc...
- Experience with Microsoft Office and other commonly used PC products.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility in working with others in a challenging, fast paced customer focused environment.
Education / Experience:- BS degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering / related discipline or associate degree with an additional 2 years of directly related experience.
- 5 years minimum experience in a low volume/high mix CNC machining environment.
