POSITION SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads the engineering team responsible for designing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes, equipment, and production systems. This role sets project priorities, directs the work of engineers, and delivers manufacturing projects that improve safety, quality, capacity, productivity, and cost. The manager partners with Operations, Quality, Product Engineering, Supply Chain, and other functions to support production and new product introductions.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Lead, assign, and review the work of Manufacturing Engineers; set priorities, coach and develop employees, assess performance, and establish accountability for project workstreams.
- Own assigned major manufacturing projects from concept and business case through design, procurement, installation, commissioning, ramp-up, and handoff to Operations.
- Deliver capacity expansions, production lines, equipment installations, facility and layout changes, manufacturing transfers, tooling, automation, and other strategic initiatives.
- Define project scope, deliverables, success criteria, schedules, budgets, resources, milestones, dependencies, and risk mitigation plans.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects; maintain visibility of critical-path activities, spending, changes, risks, and resource needs.
- Lead equipment and manufacturing-system selection, specifications, design reviews, vendor evaluations, procurement support, installation, and validation.
- Coordinate Operations, Quality, Product Engineering, Supply Chain, EHS, Maintenance, Finance, vendors, contractors, and integrators during execution.
- Identify roadblocks early, drive corrective and recovery actions, and escalate decisions affecting safety, cost, schedule, capacity, or production.
- Develop and support CAPEX justifications using project cost, capacity, labor, operational savings, ROI, payback, and other business benefits.
- Provide concise status updates to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and senior leadership covering milestones, spending, risks, decisions, and recovery actions.
- Analyze cycle time, labor requirements, material flow, equipment utilization, bottlenecks, and constraints to guide manufacturing-system decisions.
- Ensure equipment, processes, tooling, layouts, routings, standard work, documentation, training, safety controls, and production-readiness criteria are complete before handoff.
- Partner with Operations to verify that projects deliver intended capacity, throughput, quality, safety, labor, and cost results through production ramp-up.
- Use structured project management, Lean principles, problem solving, lessons learned, and post-project reviews to strengthen execution.

REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
- Demonstrated ability to lead manufacturing engineers, delegate technical work, coach employees, establish accountability, and manage competing priorities.
- Strong project-management capability across scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk, procurement, contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Successful execution of large or complex manufacturing and capital projects through commissioning, production ramp-up, and operational handoff.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, facility layouts, material flow, capacity, and production systems.
- Ability to develop CAPEX business cases and assess costs, labor, throughput, savings, return on investment, and payback.
- Ability to identify project risks early, develop mitigation plans, resolve roadblocks, and communicate decisions needed to leadership.
- Experience working with equipment suppliers, integrators, vendors, and contractors; proficiency with project-management and Microsoft Office tools.
- Proficiency with CAD/layout tools; knowledge of automation, controls, PLCs, and related technology advantageous.
- Experience in heavy industrial or engineered-to-order manufacturing, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, welding, or fabrication preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required levels)
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Significant manufacturing engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of complex manufacturing, capital equipment, production-line, facility, or capacity-expansion projects required.
- Previous experience leading or directly managing engineers strongly preferred.
- PMP or equivalent formal project-management training preferred; Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 or comparable manufacturing quality systems preferred.
