Overview

We are looking for an experiencedManufacturing Engineering Managerto join us at our Madison Facility. Our ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, possess an innate leadership ability, and help to ensure our manufacturing and maintenance departments have what they need to support our overall business strategy.

This is a fully onsite role based in Madison, WI. Candidates must live in, or be open to, relocating to the area.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures manufacturing engineering and maintenance department strategies and priorities align and support the overall business unit strategy.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop team of Manufacturing Engineers, Manufacturing Engineering Technicians, and Maintenance Supervisor by assigning/prioritizing tasks and projects, setting performance expectations, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Leads the effective budgetary estimation, design, and deployment of all equipment and tooling related projects. This includes internal design/build equipment, as well as outsourced equipment. Leads the development of RFQs, selection of external vendors, contract negotiations, and manages the installation of new equipment, or major repair work. Ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet all defined criteria. Follows and supports corporate procedures and processes.
  • Supervise, lead, and coach the Maintenance Supervisor and Lead Industrial Maintenance Technician to implement and deploy effective maintenance processes that drive operational performance KPIs. Strong understanding of preventive/predictive maintenance systems, CMMS (eMaint), maintenance utilization metrics, resource justification, and as well as knowledge in how to audit for effectiveness.
  • Possesses strong industry and technical knowledge which allows them to direct the manufacturing equipment strategy and continuous improvement plans for the plant. Experience in assembly, automation/controls, machine connectivity, electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and metal forming is essential.
  • Develops annual department goals and KPIs in support of the plant business strategy.
  • Understands, utilizes, and drives the plants equipment effectiveness through the use of OEE metrics and methodology.
  • Ensures proper and effective support of new product launches by manufacturing engineering and maintenance departments. Takes necessary actions to improve machine capabilities, as needed.
  • Participates in and leads problem solving teams to correct equipment issues and drive defects to root cause
  • Local resource/point of contact for facility and facility maintenance issues. Aligns with company Facilities Manager to prioritize, schedule, and execute facilities related projects.
  • Leads continuous improvement activities to drive safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity improvements. Understanding and experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, TPM, OEE, 6, Gemba, Kaizen, etc.).
  • Manages the overall department spending budgets for manufacturing engineering and maintenance (expenses, tooling, equipment support, supplies, spare parts, etc.). Ensures departments and projects are managed to budget.
  • Manages the plant capital spending budget and individual projects. Supports cost savings project brainstorming and justification.
  • Develop and justify annual Capital Expenditure projects, timelines, and budgets to optimize manufacturing/production processes
  • Process fixed and variable overhead account invoices for the plant to ensure proper routing and categorization.
  • Review fixed and variable overhead account positions monthly to ensure budget adherence. Maintain regular communication and alignment with financial and accounting teams.
  • Develop and justify fixed and variable overhead budgets for subsequent years based on actual spend and future equipment needs.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations. Ensures the maintenance of departmental housekeeping standards.
Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering, or other closely related discipline.
  • 5 years of experience leading a manufacturing engineering and maintenance organization in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5 years of general manufacturing machine or process design experience required to assure full project accountability from concept through project completion.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Engineering and Technology  Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and resources to the design and implementation of manufacturing equipment.
  • Design  Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the development of automated control systems.
  • Documentation  Knowledge of drawing standards for both electrical and mechanical applications.
  • Mechanical  Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of standard shop equipment and fabrication processes, including 3-axis mill, lathe, shear tables, welding, bend tables, etc.
  • PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) & HMI Touch Screens  Knowledge of selection, programming, implementing and troubleshooting PLCs and user interface HMIs.
  • Electrical  Experience with diagnosing and resolving electrical problems in industrial equipment, systems, or facilities to ensure safe and efficient operation. It involves systematic problem-solving to identify faults, failures, or inefficiencies in electrical circuits, machinery, and control systems.
  • Computers and Electronics  Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Safety  Knowledge of industrial safety standards, regulations, guidelines, and best practices (Lockout/Tagout  LOTO, machine guarding, electrical safety, arc flash, PPE, ergonomics, etc.)

SKILLS:

ABILITIES:

  • PLC & HMIs  The ability to program, implement and troubleshoot PLCs and HMI user interfaces.
  • 2D & 3D CAD program experience a plus, including AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD Electrical, Solidworks.
