About the role:
You willbe responsibleforleadingand directingall technical manufacturing plant operations. You will exercise a substantial amount of creativity, perceptionand initiative with a significant latitude for independent judgment and action. You will be managing a large group of salaried employees over multiple shifts. You will be responsiblefor people leaders in facilities and manufacturing engineering across the entire campus.  You will ensure that technical operations support the attainment of organizational or divisional production objectives, and that these objectives are achieved at the lowest cost consistent with quality requirements. You will be responsible for supporting the technical requirements to meet production schedules and plant budget. You will be responsible for the successful completion of all technical projects performed by internal or contract resources. You will develop and drive a safety culture within the plant and uphold GM’s vision, values, and cultural behaviours. You will be responsible for executing workplace safety system element ownership responsibilities campus wide. You will be responsible for acting as the single voice of the plant in any Solutioning Left technical and strategic planning activities. You will work with corporate strategy planning teams to define the future of the Oshawa campus.

  • Lead and direct all technical manufacturingactivities

  • Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to the plant’s engineering, facilities, maintenance,ITand technical training teams

  • Provide guidance to teams to ensure continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, whilemaintainingoperating budgets

  • Utilize plant KPI’s tomonitorplant performance and drive continuous improvement to exceed business plan targets

  • Embracechange and bea champion of innovation

  • Talent developmentfor all technical and semi technical personnel to function at a world class level ofproficiency

  • Constantly work to improve the Workplace of Choice environment 

  • Develop and drive a strong safety culture within the plant. Execute workplace safety system element ownership responsibilities campus-wide

  • Responsible for forecasting in areas of responsibility 

  • Negotiateandcomply withthe terms of local and national labour agreements

  • Ensure successful completion of all technical projects performed by internal and contract resources

  • Act as the single voice of the plant in all Solutioning Left technical and strategic planning activities

Skills & Abilities: 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field 

  • Extensive experience in automotive manufacturing leadership with a focus on technical operations and plant management  

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to motivate teams, drive change and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of organization in plant and beyond 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Advanced degree in a technical field 

  • 10+ years of experience in Automotive Manufacturing / Manufacturing Engineering 

  • Government relations experience or exposure 

  • Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing engineering standards, systems, and tools (such as GMS principles, workplace safety systems, ME systems, plant-floor systems)  

  • Experience in multiple business units across the corporate enterprise, not limited to manufacturing 

  • Demonstrated project/program management capability (timing, budget, risk management, cross-functional coordination) ​

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $165,000.00 to $214,300.00. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
