Job Description:About the RoleWe are seeking highly motivated Engineering Co-op students to join our Manufacturing Engineering team supporting the development, optimization, and sustainment of advanced ophthalmic medical device manufacturing operations. This role provides hands-on experience in a regulated, high-tech manufacturing environment and offers opportunities to work on process improvements, equipment development, manufacturing automation, quality initiatives, and product support activities.
Depending on business needs and individual strengths, co-op students may support projects within Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Process Engineering functions.
The ideal candidate is passionate about solving complex technical problems, enjoys working cross-functionally, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcess Engineering Focus- Support manufacturing process development, optimization, and validation activities.
- Analyze production data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Participate in investigations related to yield, quality, equipment performance, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Assist with equipment qualification, process characterization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and update manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and process documentation.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma projects focused on reducing waste and improving productivity.
Mechanical Engineering Focus- Assist in the design and improvement of mechanical parts, manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and assembly equipment.
- Support mechanical troubleshooting and failure analysis activities.
- Create and modify CAD models, engineering drawings, and design documentation.
- Participate in technical reviews and verification activities.
- Collaborate with operations and quality teams to improve manufacturability and reliability.
Electrical Engineering Focus- Support troubleshooting of PCBAs/electronics, manufacturing equipment, control systems, and test systems.
- Assist with electrical design, documentation, and hardware modifications.
- Support data acquisition, equipment automation, and process monitoring systems.
- Perform electrical analysis and support corrective actions for PCBAs/electronics related issues.
- Collaborate with operations and quality teams to improve manufacturability and reliability.
Additional Responsibilities- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, Supplier Quality, Facilities, and Operations teams.
- Participate in root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
- Support project planning, execution, and reporting activities.
- Present technical findings and project updates to engineering leadership.
- Follow all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Electromechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Or a related engineering discipline
- Must be enrolled in an accredited university program and returning to school following the co-op assignment.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
- Ability to work full-time during the co-op assignment.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with engineering projects, design teams, labs, or manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, automation, or manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, Altium, OrCAD, or equivalent.
- Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab, JMP, Python, or MATLAB.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and engineering problem-solving techniques.

The expected pay range for this position is between $27.00 per hour and $61.00 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension).
