Position SummaryTPT is seeking an experienced
Manufacturing Engineer to support key manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, manual machining, precision deburring, assembly and identification. Additionally, this individual will also support other manufacturing processes, such as chemical processing, coating and plating, heat treatment, non-destructive testing (NDT), grinding and honing. Responsibilities include creating/updating part masters (routing/BOM), dispositioning of non-conforming hardware back to allowable conditions, performing the technical review of purchase orders, implementing new capital equipment (CAPEX), creating and maintaining new product development (NPD) schedules and timelines, generating and validating 3D models and 2D drawings, and designing manufacturing fixtures to support production. In this role, the Manufacturing Engineer will provide direct support for all production processes to achieve the safety, quality, delivery and cost (SQDC) goals. This is an on-site position based at our manufacturing site in Valencia, CA and reports to the Engineering Manager.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities- Follow safety policies, ensure safety issues are reported in a timely fashion through direct communication and near-miss reporting with the production team
- Interface and coordinate with the integrated product team (IPT - Materials, Quality, Engineering and Production) to facilitate rework of non-conforming product at the machine and also during the MRB stand-up meetings
- Work within the Engineering Department to establish best practices for new processes, continuous improvement and optimization for existing processes, and full implementation of standard work, "clear and concise" written instructions, and mistake-proof visual work instructions
- Support a site-wide culture of 5S and continuous improvement through routine audits and enforcement of policies; embrace the concept of "what good looks like" and help reinforce those concepts throughout the site
- Manage multiple projects with critical customer deadlines, provide project schedules showing detail and milestone activities, identify any technical or scheduling risks, and provide regular status updates to the Engineering Manager and Sales Team
- Support bi-weekly new product development (NPD) meetings to communicate status, identify immediate and future bottlenecks and constraints, and work with the IPT to provide resolutions to guarantee schedule adherence for each project
- Participate in Quality Stand-Up Meetings as a key contributor that receives Quality and Production feedback and uses the information to identify gaps in the manufacturing process, collaborate on immediate solutions, and provide corrective action to ensure that mistakes are not repeated
- Collaborate with 3rd-party processing vendors (OSP) to determine best practices and pre/post-processing evaluations and recommendations
- Navigate through the ERP system to verify engineering requirements, review customer demand, determine work order status, and evaluate cell/machine capacity on a regular cadence (daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly) to validate and improve site processes
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement related to SQDC; the Manufacturing Engineer will actively challenge the status quo by asking the question "How can we do this better?" and then directly support operational improvements through continuous improvement projects and participation of Kaizen events
- All other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager or designate
Experience and Education Required- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Minimum 2 years' direct experience in a production CNC-machining (VMC, HMC, 5-axis, lathe) environment (aerospace preferred)
- At least 1 year of experience working with an MRP or ERP system
- Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement tools, 5S methodology, and structured problem-solving processes
Technical Skills - Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Experienced in CAD software and modeling; SolidWorks preferred
- Understanding and knowledge of general machining practices
- Capable to perform tolerance stack-up analyses to determine clearance/interference conditions
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and blueprints, including GD&T symbols per ASME Y14.5
