Job Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving manufacturing processes, systems, and methods to optimize production and enhance product quality. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, implementing process improvements, and ensuring efficient and cost-effective production.

A Day In The Life

  • Every day at Hubbell is different and you'll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you'll make a difference by:
  • Developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods by applying engineering and LEAN principles in fixture design, problem solving, and material selection.
  • Create and maintain work instructions for both setup and operation of production equipment.
  • Analyzing and planning work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency and product flow. Applying Lean Manufacturing methods.
  • Conferring with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Studying specifications, engineering blueprints and shop data and conferring with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems.
  • Preparing tool and fixture concepts, coordinating review and approval by manufacturing staff and developing detailed CAD drawings.
  • Conferring with vendors to determine product specifications and arranging for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimating production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions. Using MTM, MSD, Time Study, or similar formal system for factory time measurement.
  • Conferring with management, engineering, operations and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applying statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential. Evaluating product lines and recommending changes in production methods, materials and product design to optimize throughput, quality and cost.
  • Troubleshooting equipment in downtime situations and working with maintenance to service equipment.
  • Providing input to safety committee, Lean Manufacturing Teams, Customer service, QC, Purchasing, etc.
  • Investigate new technologies and options for equipment, design, and assembly.


What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (General, Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical), or related field (required)
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing techniques including Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, 5S, etc.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a wide array of variables.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of shop routings in SAP preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks preferred.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs preferred.
  • Basic machine shop skills (mill, lathe, drill press, etc) preferred.
