The OpportunityThe Manufacturing engineer drives continuous improvement in all phases of the production cycle. This position maximizes manufacturing effectiveness through identification and elimination of major forms of waste; identifies root causes of performance gaps through use of Lean Sigma tools; assures safe work procedures are adopted through an understanding of ergonomics and OSHA requirements; and formulates corrective action plans for improvement with area team members.
Responsibilities- Identifies production process improvements in the areas of safety, quality, and productivity.
- Develops proposals for production process improvements.
- Monitors progress of major projects using standard project management tools.
- Conducts cost comparison studies; analyzes workforce utilization, facility layout, and operational data such as production costs, production routing procedures, and production schedules, to determine efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
- Recommends methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchasing new equipment.
- Confers with management and engineering to choose and implement improvement recommendations.
- Uses Lean Sigma principles and tools for process improvement results.
- Oversees the installation of equipment and machinery.
- Acts as a change agent by planning and facilitating lean events.
- Analyzes build data and identifies process capability.
- Facilitate process mapping exercises to drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.
- Makes certain all OSHA requirements are considered during work re-design and new equipment purchases.
- Participates in new product development design reviews to influence decisions regarding design for manufacturability.
- Performs other duties or responsibilities as requested or required.
Requirements - Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university is required.
- Certified Lean Sigma Black belt is preferred from ASQ or a similar institution.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial engineering or process improvement role in a manufacturing company.
- Experience in a machine shop, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly environment is preferred.
- Experience with collaborative robots and automation is required.
- Proficiency in using CAD or a related software program.
- Analyzes situations and problems using an established problem-solving method.
- Excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills.
- Capable of interacting at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently or serving as a member of a team.
- Fosters open communication. Implements change by building consensus for the change.
- Takes initiative and can deliver results.
- Demonstrates expert proficiency in use of ERP (popular functions and data retrieval), MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Visio, MS Outlook, and CAD software programs.
- Is willing to learn new software or technology tools.
- Understands and can use measurement tools and equipment.
- Understands the basics of quality management systems.
