Full Job Description
Your Charter

Build the manufacturing systems that enable humanoid robots to scale.

You will own manufacturing processes for critical robotic components and assemblies, taking products from prototype through production. Your role will focus on developing robust machining, assembly, inspection, and validation processes that improve quality, throughput, and repeatability while supporting rapid product iteration.

Your work will directly impact production readiness, hardware quality, manufacturing efficiency, and the long-term scalability of 1X robotic systems.

Key Outcomes
  • Develop and release manufacturing processes that consistently deliver high-quality robotic components and assemblies at scale
  • Improve cycle time, first-pass yield, and process reliability through structured continuous improvement initiatives
  • Design and deploy fixtures, tooling, CAM programs, inspection methods, and automation solutions that increase manufacturing efficiency
  • Successfully support NPI programs from prototype builds through production ramp while maintaining manufacturing readiness
  • Establish and maintain process controls, quality metrics, and documentation that ensure repeatable production performance

Key Competencies
  • Strong manufacturing engineering fundamentals across machining, assembly, tooling, inspection, and process development
  • Deep understanding of DFM, production scaling, and manufacturing problem-solving
  • Strong analytical skills with experience applying SPC, quality systems, and root-cause methodologies
  • Hands-on engineering mindset with the ability to move effectively between the factory floor and technical design discussions
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering, quality, operations, and supply chain teams

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience supporting precision mechanical or electromechanical products
  • Experience with CAM programming, fixture design, tooling development, and precision machining processes
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and production process development
  • Experience integrating electromechanical assemblies into production environments
  • Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, CMM inspection, and precision measurement techniques
  • Experience collaborating with design engineering, quality, production, and supply chain organizations
  • Proficiency with CAD tools, PLM systems, ERP systems, and manufacturing documentation workflows

Preferred Skills
  • Experience manufacturing robotic actuators, joints, motion-control systems, or other precision electromechanical products
  • Experience operating in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments with rapid design iteration
  • Familiarity with automation, lights-out machining, or advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or structured continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience supporting factory layout development, workstation design, and material flow optimization
  • Experience supporting products through NPI, validation builds, and production ramp-up activities

What does a successful 1X Team Member look like?

Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it's the one thing you can't get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.

Successful Manufacturing Engineers at 1X are highly execution-oriented and deeply connected to the factory floor. They understand that great manufacturing systems are built through rigorous attention to detail, constant iteration, and close collaboration with the people building the product every day. They solve problems quickly, drive continuous improvement, and take ownership of outcomes from prototype through production.

Compensation Range

$105,000 - $220,000 + Equity

Benefits
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave
  • 401(k) plan with company match (100% on the first 3% of contributions, 50% on the next 2%)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) options
  • Commuter benefits (transit and parking)
  • Short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental health, financial, and personal support
  • Onsite snacks and catered lunches
