ABOUT THE ROLEAnduril's Space Manufacturing team is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for Avionics to join our team. Your expertise will help ensure that our products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability at Anduril.
As the Manufacturing Engineer for Avionics, you will own the manufacturing processes for the flight computing, guidance and navigation, and radio-frequency avionics that fly on our spacecraft. Your responsibilities span process development and documentation, Design for Manufacturability, assembly tooling and test equipment, and the workmanship standards these assemblies are built to. You will work hands-on with technicians on the floor and report to the Lead Manufacturing Engineer for Sensors and Avionics.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on electronics manufacturing engineer who has taken flight or comparably high-reliability electronic assemblies from development into production, and who is comfortable working from incomplete design data in a fast-paced environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO- Own manufacturing process development and documentation for flight computer, GNC and RF avionics assemblies - PCBA, box-level build and integrated unit assembly - to IPC-610/620 Class 3, IPC J-STD-001 Space Addendum and the NASA-STD-8739 series.
- Author and maintain work instructions, travelers and as-built records for the assemblies you own.
- Drive Design for Manufacturability and Assembly into avionics designs before CDR - component selection and screening, testability, connector access and harness routing.
- Specify and qualify assembly tooling, fixtures and test equipment for avionics build, and support the test station interface with Test Operations.
- Own root cause analysis, PFMEA, process validation and first article inspection for avionics processes, and disposition nonconformances on flight hardware.
- Support incoming acceptance of development and COTS avionics units, and feed manufacturability and workmanship findings back to the Lead for vendor and partner engagement.
- Work RF-specific handling discipline into production practice - ESD, connector torque and mating cycles, cleanliness - and train technicians to it.
- Act as an owner and evangelist for Anduril's Manufacturing Development Process (MDP), and use Foundry and Teamcenter as the system of record for build definition, work instructions and as-built records.
- Support design reviews (PDR, CDR) and manufacturing readiness reviews for avionics scope.
- Provide hands-on technical support to the technicians building avionics assemblies, on the floor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 8+ years of manufacturing engineering experience on electronic assemblies in aerospace, space, defense or another high-reliability industry.
- Working knowledge of high-reliability electronics workmanship standards - IPC-610/620 Class 3, IPC J-STD-001 Space Addendum, NASA-STD-8739 series.
- Hands-on experience with PCBA processes (SMT, through-hole, conformal coating, potting, component screening) and box-level assembly (cabling, harnessing, mechanical integration, thermal, EMI/EMC).
- Has authored work instructions or travelers for flight or comparably high-consequence electronic hardware.
- Experience with root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone), PFMEA and first article inspection.
- Hands-on mindset with a demonstrated willingness to work on the floor alongside technicians.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- 10+ years flight avionics manufacturing experience - flight computers, GNC units, transponders, radios or RF front ends.
- RF or microwave assembly and test experience, including connector and cable discipline.
- Cleanroom manufacturing with contamination control and ESD discipline.
- MES and PLM fluency - Foundry, Teamcenter, SAP or equivalent - for work instruction authoring and as-built records.
- Took an electronics product from prototype or LRIP into rate production.
- Currently possesses and is able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
