Make a Lasting Impact on Safety Performance Across Complex, High-Hazard Environments

Are you a trusted health and safety consultant who thrives on solving complex challenges, influencing organizational culture, and helping clients achieve meaningful improvements in safety performance? ERM is seeking a Managing Technical Consultant, Health and Safety to join our growing Safety and Risk team. In this leadership role, you will partner with some of the world's leading organizations to reduce risk, strengthen safety culture, and drive sustainable business performance while helping expand ERM's industry-leading consulting practice.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Safety, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • 4+ years of consulting experience supporting organizations in safety management, risk management, EHS performance improvement, leadership development, or safety culture initiatives.

  • Experience managing client relationships, preparing proposals and contracts, and contributing to business development activities.

  • Strong background working within high-hazard industrial or construction environments.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting construction safety programs on active project sites, including contractor and subcontractor oversight.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910) and Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926), with experience applying requirements in field-based settings.

  • Experience participating in daily work planning activities, including toolbox talks and pre-task planning.

  • Ability to conduct field observations, evaluate risk controls, and assess the effectiveness of safety programs and procedures.

  • Strong project and program management capabilities with the ability to balance scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and client presentations.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Willingness to travel up to 60%, depending on project and client needs.

  • Passion for safety excellence, continuous improvement, and helping organizations achieve world-class EHS performance.

Preferred

  • Professional credentials such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, PE, or similar certifications.

  • 6+ years of consulting experience in health, safety, risk management, or EHS performance improvement.

  • Experience leading safety transformation initiatives, behavioral safety programs, or safety leadership development efforts.

  • Experience facilitating workshops and training programs.

  • Knowledge of Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention and management.

  • Experience supporting high-hazard industries and process safety programs.

  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.

  • Experience performing compliance audits and safety assessments.

  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management systems.

  • Leadership coaching and organizational culture change experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement innovative safety and risk management programs that help clients proactively manage operational, compliance, and workplace safety risks.

  • Lead complex safety and process safety projects, including audits, assessments, safety studies, and strategic program development.

  • Design solutions addressing construction safety, management systems, serious injury and fatality prevention, process safety, machine safety, and safety culture improvement.

  • Support incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective action development, and verification of risk controls.

  • Coach leaders and frontline personnel to strengthen safety leadership capabilities and improve organizational performance.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on complex health, safety, and risk management challenges.

  • Conduct field-based assessments and observations to verify the effectiveness of safety controls and programs.

  • Partner with clients to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainable performance gains.

  • Build and expand client relationships that generate repeat business and long-term partnerships.

  • Collaborate with ERM account teams, Principals, and Partners to develop proposals, win new work, and grow the Safety and Risk practice.

  • Lead, mentor, develop, and inspire technical professionals to achieve project and business objectives.

  • Support project managers in delivering high-quality work that meets scope, budget, schedule, and client expectations.

  • Deliver training, field coaching, workshops, and targeted assessments that help clients strengthen safety performance and organizational capability.

  • Collaborate with ERM's global network of technical experts to share best practices and deliver integrated client solutions.

For the Managing Technical Consultant, Health and Safety position, the anticipated annual base pay is $102,000–$130,886 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
