Full Job Description
The New York Times is creating a video news series that brings our journalism to life in a new format. We are seeking a Managing Producer who is a seasoned journalist and manager, drawn to building ambitious work that breaks new ground.

You will nurture innovation and sustainability while cultivating a culture of collaboration. You will set the long-term editorial vision and priorities for this new show and develop and manage relationships with the core newsroom and key internal stakeholders.

You will work closely with department leadership and other senior leaders to develop the show and support the talented team who will bring it to life. You are a builder: comfortable with creating from the ground up, evolving formats, and helping hosts and teams find their footing. You are also an editor and manager with deep experience in daily news and a strong strategic sensibility for what audiences want and how to grow them.

This is an in-office position, based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office four days a week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with Shows leadership to evolve the new video show, including driving the editorial direction and establish coverage priorities
  • Manage a team to produce urgent, compelling and high-quality video journalism
  • Conduct regular meetings to review quality, provide feedback and set priorities with the team
  • Develop relationships with Times reporters and editors
  • Find opportunities to tell news stories in new and exciting ways
  • Oversee production of episodes, including: helping the team define ideas, structuring episodes, and guiding the story
  • Work with the team of makers and hosts to craft stories coherently and artfully
  • Manage an editorial calendar, juggling immediate priorities and longer-term goals
  • Assess staffing needs to build a diverse team of producers and editors
  • Manage your direct reports, providing editorial feedback to producers and help guide their growth development
  • Collaborate with programming and audience teams
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

Basic Qualifications:
  • 10+ years experience in audio or video production.
  • 5+ years experience managing teams
  • Organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • A passion for storytelling across various kinds of formats and subjects, with a track record of overseeing and evolving shows
  • Demonstrated experience as a people manager, with an ability to foster an inclusive, diverse and innovative environment
  • Understanding of mainstream and emerging social channels
  • A passion for video storytelling and breaking news, feature and enterprise journalism
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects on a variety of timelines in a fast-paced and often challenging environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Broad and in depth experience in digital news
  • Demonstrated deep command of a variety of video sources, including wire services, UGC, archival footage, motion graphics, and original footage
  • Understanding of mainstream and emerging social channels
  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects on a variety of timelines in a fast-paced and often challenging environment
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and some weekends
  • Experience in a deadline-driven environment

Additional Compensation and Benefits:

For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock. The annual base pay range for this role is between:

$145,000-$175,000 USD
