Full Job Description
Your Opportunity

Our strategy is grounded in Schwab’s “Through Clients’ Eyes” approach, placing clients at the center of how we prioritize work, make decisions, and deliver a differentiated advisor experience. Advisor Services continues to grow in scale, complexity, and importance to Schwab’s long-term strategy, and this role will help lead the evolution of how we serve advisors today while building the capabilities required for the future.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Advisor Wealth Services, the Managing Director, Advisor Services Group will lead a large, multi-site service organization supporting advisors across ASG Network and ASG Teams. Together, these segments represent approximately $1.18T in assets, 3.8M accounts, 13,263 firms, and 15,545 advisors. The organization plays a critical role in delivering brilliant advisor experiences through expertise, timeliness, trust, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.

This leader will be accountable for advancing the service model from primarily reactive support toward a more proactive, scalable, digitally enabled, and relationship-oriented experience. The role requires a leader who can operate with enterprise perspective, translate strategy into clear priorities, build strong leadership teams, make disciplined trade-offs, and deliver results in a fast-changing environment.

Role Summary

The Managing Director, Advisor Services Group will lead a high-scale advisor service organization responsible for supporting the needs of firms and advisors across a broad range of size, complexity, and service needs. This role will ensure the organization delivers strong advisor satisfaction, business outcomes, operational effectiveness, and employee engagement while continuing to evolve the model to support future growth.

The leader will be expected to balance near-term execution with long-term transformation, including service model modernization, digital adoption, talent development, capacity planning, and process improvement. Success in this role requires strong judgment, a clear point of view, leadership presence, and the ability to drive alignment across teams, partners, and enterprise stakeholders.

Key Outcomes
  • Deliver a differentiated advisor experience by ensuring advisors receive timely, expert, accurate, and high-quality support across service channels.
  • Lead a large, nationally distributed service organization across multiple locations, ensuring consistent execution, clear accountability, and strong partnership across ASG Network, ASG Teams, WST, digital, operations, sales, and platform partners.
  • Advance the future-state service model by shifting work toward more proactive, value-added advisor engagement while using digital tools, automation, and process improvement to reduce friction and improve scale.
  • Build a future-ready leadership team by hiring ahead of the curve, raising the performance bar, developing talent, and closing capability gaps needed for where the business is going.
  • Translate strategy into clear priorities, expectations, and operating rhythms for Directors, Managers, Team Leaders, and Service Professionals.
  • Lead through change with steadiness, transparency, and a forward-looking mindset, helping teams understand what is changing, why it matters, and how their work connects to broader Advisor Services priorities.
  • Shape business strategy by using advisor feedback, operational insights, digital adoption trends, service data, and employee input to improve the advisor experience and drive business results.
  • Drive digital adoption and workflow improvement by helping advisors use efficient and secure channels while ensuring downstream processes, internal workflows, and service experiences continue to improve.
  • Make deliberate prioritization decisions, stop or de-prioritize work that no longer aligns, and keep teams focused on the initiatives that create the greatest advisor and business impact.
  • Create a culture of thoughtful challenge, continuous improvement, and accountability by encouraging leaders to surface risks, question assumptions, identify opportunities, and strengthen decisions before execution.
  • Manage expense, staffing, pay planning, location strategy, and capacity trade-offs with discipline, ensuring resources are aligned to advisor demand, business priorities, and long-term scale.
What you have Required Experience
  • Significant leadership experience in financial services, the advisor industry, brokerage, RIA custody, client service, operations, or another highly regulated client-facing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, complex teams through change while maintaining strong client outcomes, employee engagement, operational quality, and business results.
  • Experience leading through managers and senior leaders, including setting clear expectations, building accountability, developing leadership capability, and addressing performance gaps.
  • Proven ability to translate business strategy into clear priorities, execution plans, and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills, including the ability to assess risk, make trade-offs, and provide direction when information is incomplete.
  • Experience operating in a regulated environment with an understanding of controls, risk management, compliance obligations, and client impact.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence across functions, levels, and business partners.
  • Series 7, 63, 9/10, and 24 required or required to obtain within the timeframe established by the business, HR, and regulatory requirements.
Preferred Experience
  • Direct experience in Advisor Services, RIA custody, advisor service, advisor operations, relationship management, or a related advisor-facing business.
  • Deep understanding of advisor needs, RIA firm operating models, custody platforms, digital tools, service workflows, and the evolving advisor marketplace.
  • Experience leading service transformation, digital adoption, automation, workflow redesign, or operating model modernization.
  • Experience managing a multi-site or nationally distributed organization with large-scale service, operations, or relationship-based support responsibilities.
  • Experience using data, advisor feedback, employee insights, and operational metrics to improve client experience, productivity, quality, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Demonstrated ability to build high-performing leadership teams, develop future leaders, and create meaningful career paths across a large organization.
  • Ability to lead with a challenger mindset, constructively question assumptions, surface risks and opportunities, and help teams move from discussion to action.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and maturity, with the ability to lead through ambiguity, pressure, change, and competing priorities.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience preferred
