The Manager, Technical Underwriting is responsible for leading and supporting the most technical experts within the Underwriting and Risk Solutions team. In this role, the Manager will oversee all the Underwriting Technical & Quality Consultants from all P&C Product lines: Home, Auto, Commercial Auto, Commercial, Farm and Corporate Accounts. They will provide leadership and guidance to the Underwriting Technical & Quality Consultants who in turn support the Underwriters and Senior Underwriters with the most complex risks.

How you will create impact:

  • Oversee the selection and development of highly skilled, effective and engaged teams consisting of Underwriting Technical & Quality Consultants.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, support, and mentoring to Underwriting Technical & Quality Consultants across all Product lines (Home, Auto, Commercial Auto, Commercial, and Farm).
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders & agencies through effective communication and the successful execution of case underwriting and portfolio profitability programs in support of overall goals.
  • Implement strategic direction and manage all product line changes impacting UW Technical and Quality Consultants.
  • Manage and be accountable for the Solutions Review / escalation process.
  • Oversight of UW Technical & Quality Consultants involvement on various programs and projects as required by various Product lines.
  • Develop, monitor, measure and report on plans and budgets for business units.
  • Continuously review and identify improvement opportunities and synergies in processes, workflows and programs which enable client centric service.
  • Work closely with Product, Client Service Solutions and Claims to ensure a consistent level of quality service and consistently improve results.


To join our team:

  • Five (5) years in a leadership role together with knowledge and skill in underwriting principles/processes and Human Resources.
  • University degree within business, commerce or technology or demonstrated equivalent work experience.
  • Accreditation with Insurance Institute of Canada. CIP designation required.
  • Demonstrated ability and proven results in developing, building and maintaining strong and effective teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, build and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Functional knowledge of P & C products, underwriting principles and processes.
  • Proficiency with business productivity tools.

Salary information

Expected salary/hourly range $91,058.00 - $141,000.00.

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
