Job Description

The Tax Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the company's U.S. income tax provision and compliance function, including federal and state reporting requirements. This role ensures accurate and timely filing of tax returns and supports the tax provision under ASC 740.

Responsibilities for the Tax Manager include but are not limited to:
  • Manage the preparation of the quarterly and annual ASC 740 and SSAP 101 income tax provisions
  • Lead the preparation and review of the annual federal and state income tax returns as well as and other miscellaneous tax filings
  • Monitor book to tax reconciliations inclusive of permanent and temporary timing difference as well as deferred tax inventory and applicable valuation allowances
  • Prepare and review tax related financial statement footnotes in accordance with ASU 2023-09 and SSAP 101
  • Perform SSAP 101 admissibility tests and risk-based capital thresholds
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to gather financial information, resolve tax-relates issues, and support reporting needs
  • Conduct or supervise tax research, tax planning and tax strategy projects to assist in developing to minimize the Company's tax liabilities
  • Review tax processes and identify opportunities to strengthen controls, streamline workflows, and enhance overall accuracy and efficiency
  • Perform Sarbanes Oxley compliance initiatives
  • Interact regularly with the Company's independent auditors and outside tax service providers


The Ideal Candidate for this role will have:
  • A Master's Degree in Accounting, specializing in Tax from an accredited university is required.
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years or more of working experience in an accounting role (required), and experience in the Insurance Industry (highly desirable)
  • Big Four tax experience or insurance company tax experience is preferred
  • Proven record of working with minimal supervision and willingness to perform a variety of job-related functions including both compliance and research-related tasks
  • Ability to read and understand complex technical literature (tax and accounting) and to communicate information with peers and with senior management
  • Experience with Oracle Tax Reporting Cloud Service Tax or other tax provision software package.

The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.
  • Omaha, NE, Richmond, VA and Albany, NY Pay Range: $101,184.00 - $120,462.00
  • Chicago, IL Pay Range: $111,384.00 - $132,498.00
  • New York City, NY Pay Range: $121,482.00 - $144,636.00
