Job Summary

As a key member of the Investor Experience Team, the Manager, Talent leads initiatives and delivers responsive, curated talent support to local companies expanding in Calgary and to foreign companies growing into Calgary. The role works alongside the Business Development team across key sectors to support CED's goal of growing businesses and attracting in demand talent to Calgary. A key part of the role is building strong relationships with corporate clients, Team Calgary partners, government and immigration officials, post-secondary institutions, and the local Calgary talent ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Talent Support
  • Provide talent information and insights to our clients to assist in filling their open roles. This can include the funding landscape to offset the cost of hiring, updates to immigration programs, average salary data, and information on Calgary based talent programs, for example, work integrated learning.
  • Understand Federal and Provincial Immigration programs/ policies and support the processing of any applicable client referrals, including but not limited to IRCC's Global Talent Stream and Dedicated Service Channel.
  • Identify and develop local, national and international talent specific partner relationships to further our retention and attraction efforts (international talent recruitment, settlement efforts).
  • Identify and support local industry associations including those focused on the placement of underrepresented talent.
  • Work effectively with government agencies and stakeholder committees.
  • Manage and execute all CED talent related activations and events.
  • Curate quarterly talent newsletter identifying upcoming events, policy changes and industry insights.
  • Record and manage activities in CRM.


Talent Initiatives
  • Research talent ecosystem opportunities and collaborate to create quarterly communications to our clients.
  • Create talent information templates describing the fulsome talent ecosystem in Calgary to expeditiously serve our clients.
  • Engage the Business Development Team to identify the talent needs of each sector and plan appropriate programs as needed.
  • Actively participate in talent ecosystem meetings that advance curriculum and or other programming to meet current and future talent demands.
  • Deliver talent specific presentations to corporations and stakeholder groups as requested.
  • Actively promote our talent attraction and talent retention work on social media channels.

Talent Strategy
  • Identify ecosystems gaps and develops resources and programming to fill the needs.
  • Quarterly budget forecasting and management.
  • Create and revise annual action plans for Talent and Workforce connections as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Support Director Real Estate & Investor Experience to determine and support CED's strategic direction.
  • Analyze labour market & immigration information, trend data and business intelligence to inform decisions.
  • Ensure that new and ongoing initiatives support opportunities outlined in Uplook (economic strategy for Calgary) relating to equity-deserving, diverse and inclusive workforces that will help Calgary advance its economic, environmental and social goals to drive impact.

Education

Post Secondary education (international trade, economics, commerce, business administration or workforce development)

Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar field.

Key Competencies
  • A proven track record in talent, recruitment and/or workforce development, talent attraction and connection and immigration related activities and background a must.
  • Effective at working independently and as a member of a team with an ability to collaborate, seek input from and build a sense of team across business units.
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities and deliver timely and efficient results and service in a changing environment.
  • Sound judgment and ability in handling matters of a confidential and/or sensitive nature.
  • Excellent oral (including presentation and public speaking) and written skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities for own workload based upon need for immediate action, work objectives and schedules requiring independent judgment.
  • Experience working effectively in a fast-paced environment and during stressful periods, while maintaining a composed disposition.
  • CRM experience, preferably Hubspot.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to execute in a timely and professional manner.
