Job Summary:PayPal Credit's Developer Experience (DevEx) team designs, deploys, and operates cloud-native platforms supporting Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL), consumer revolving credit, and merchant lending products across AWS, on-premises environments, and PayPal's modernization strategy into GCP. DevEx partners with business, product, Security, Compliance, Audit, Edge, and Networking teams to deliver innovative infrastructure, reduce friction, streamline operations, and accelerate product launches.
We are seeking a Manager, Systems & Cloud Engineering to lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineers and serve as a strategic product partner. This role will own the roadmap for platforms, tools, and service architecture supporting PayPal Credit, including the Loan Management System built on Apache Fineract. The manager will align resources to business priorities, partner with security, audit, and compliance stakeholders, and oversee budgets and vendors.
Job Description:Essential Responsibilities: - Lead a team of highly skilled network engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
- Develop and manage both long-term and short-term strategic transformation plans.
- Implement scalable global connectivity solutions and oversee all phases of project lifecycles.
- Work with cross-functional teams to address hybrid cloud connectivity requirements.
- Champion the development of network lifecycle automation and visibility/telemetry tools.
- Drive business outcomes by acting as a customer advocate.
- Vendor Relationship Management: Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and influence the vendor community's roadmap.
- Co-lead initiatives in industry innovations.
Minimum Qualifications:- 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:Additional Responsibilities- Own the DevEx product vision, roadmap, and prioritized backlog by translating business priorities and developer feedback into JIRA epics that define the team's work.
- Lead, coach, hire, and develop a team of infrastructure engineers, including performance management and career growth.
- Direct the design, deployment, and operation of infrastructure powering PayPal Credit's Loan Management System and lending products, spanning AWS and on premises environments, certificate lifecycle management, patching, disaster recovery, and resiliency testing.
- Serve as the primary partner for Security, Audit, and Compliance, overseeing vulnerability remediation, PCI/SOX requirements, access reviews, and audit responses.
- Manage AWS budgets, vendor relationships, purchase orders, invoices, forecasting, and cost-optimization initiatives.
- Partner with development and business teams to remove delivery blockers and identify new platforms, tools, and partnerships that support product launches and revenue growth.
Preferred Qualifications- 2+ years of direct engineering management experience, preferably in DevOps, SRE, cloud, or infrastructure engineering. Prior experience as an engineer in one of these disciplines is a plus.
- Experience owning technical product roadmaps and translating business priorities into actionable backlogs.
- Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS), containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD and deployment tooling, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation), scripting, and monitoring and observability platforms (Datadog, Splunk).
- Experience managing cloud budgets, optimizing infrastructure costs, and using tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, tagging, and committed-use discounts.
- Experience managing vulnerabilities and partnering with security teams and auditors on PCI, SOX, cloud security, and access-control requirements.
- Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to represent technical roadmaps to senior leadership, security, and audit partners.
