TITLE: Manager of Sustainability Impact

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Sustainability

SUMMARY: Goodwill is the largest nonprofit workforce development network in North America and a central force in the circular economy, operating at scale across the United States and Canada. The Manager of Sustainability Impact at Goodwill Industries International (GII) plays a critical role in strengthening how Goodwill measures, communicates, and advances its environmental and community impact. This role sits at the intersection of data, strategy, and storytelling - leading efforts to build a more consistent, credible, and actionable approach to sustainability reporting across the Goodwill network.

This individual will help translate complex data into clear insights, support the development of reporting frameworks and standards, and work closely with Goodwill leaders and GII cross-departmental teams to ensure alignment, transparency, and progress toward shared sustainability goals. The role requires both strong technical expertise and the ability to engage, influence, and communicate effectively across a diverse, multi-stakeholder network.

BASIC FUNCTION: Lead the development and execution of a network-wide approach to sustainability impact measurement, reporting, and disclosure - ensuring consistency, credibility, and alignment with evolving regulatory expectations and global frameworks, while supporting data collection, analysis, and communication across all sustainability team projects and initiatives.

SPECIFIC DUTIES1:
  1. Lead the development and implementation of standardized approaches to sustainability impact measurement and reporting across the Goodwill network
  1. Support the design and evolution of ESG reporting frameworks, metrics, and methodologies aligned with global standards (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD) and emerging regulatory requirements
  1. Monitor and interpret evolving regulations, disclosure requirements, and industry trends, and translate them into actionable guidance for GII and local Goodwills
  1. Coordinate with local Goodwill organizations to support data collection, validation, and reporting, helping build consistency and capacity across the network
  1. Analyze and synthesize sustainability data to generate insights, identify trends, and inform strategy, program design, and external communications
  1. Develop clear, executive-ready materials, dashboards, and presentations that communicate Goodwill's impact to internal leadership, partners, and external audiences
  1. Support the development of compelling narratives that connect environmental outcomes (e.g. landfill diversion, emissions reduction) with social impact (e.g. job creation and workforce development)
  1. Manage cross-functional collaboration across GII teams (e.g., analytics & technology, government relations, marketing & communications) to align reporting practices and leverage data effectively
  1. Serve as a key point of contact for member engagement on sustainability reporting, facilitating working groups, trainings, and ongoing communication
  2. Support relationships with external partners, including data providers, reporting platforms, consultants, and industry groups
  3. Contribute to the development of tools, templates, and systems that improve efficiency, consistency, and usability of sustainability data and reporting
  4. Support the Sustainability Team in advancing broader priorities, including project work, strategic initiatives, and day-to-day operations
  5. Other duties as assigned


RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Daily collaboration with GII Sustainability Team and cross-functional partners

Local Goodwills: Frequent contact with Goodwill CEOs and senior staff

External: Ongoing interaction with partners, consultants, and industry stakeholders

SKILLS NEEDED:
  1. Strong understanding of ESG frameworks, carbon accounting methodologies, and sustainability reporting standards
  1. Knowledge of evolving regulatory and disclosure requirements related to ESG and climate reporting
  1. Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize and interpret complex datasets from multiple sources
  1. Advanced data visualization and storytelling capabilities, including translating data into clear, actionable insights
  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop executive-level materials and present to diverse audiences
  1. Demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders across a distributed, multi-organization network
  1. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders simultaneously

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in sustainability, environmental science, business, public policy, data analytics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Five or more years of relevant professional experience in sustainability, ESG reporting, data analysis, or impact measurement
  1. Experience working with greenhouse gas (GHG) data, emissions inventories, or carbon accounting methodologies
  1. Experience working across organizations or networks to align data, standards, or reporting approaches
  1. Proven ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to senior leaders and external stakeholders
  1. Demonstrated ability to lead multiple concurrent initiatives, manage competing priorities, and deliver results in a collaborative, fast-moving environment


DECISION MAKING:

Decision and recommendation making for developing systems, appropriate responses to identified needs, and consultative guidance to improve performance.

SUPERVISION:

Moderate with latitude given to the position in carrying out work assignments. Work is checked for accuracy and completeness.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Sedentary with lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles or files. Walking and standing are required occasionally; long hours sitting at a desk and using a computer.
