Full Job Description
Manager, Survey who willprovide leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight to supportsuccessful project execution across our civil construction operationsthroughout British Columbia.

In this role you will be a valuedmember of Dawson Civil, working in the permanent full-time position of Manager,Survey, reporting to the Manager, Operations.The ideal candidate will lead and support survey crews, manage surveyoperations, and collaborate closely with project teams to ensure accurate andefficient project delivery. This position will be based out of Kamloops, BC andwill require travel throughout our great province.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Always prioritizing the safety of yourself and others
  • Leading, mentoring and managing survey crews across multiple civil construction projects
  • Conducting and overseeing field surveys including construction staking, topographic, design, and volumetric surveys
  • Reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Planning and coordinating survey resources to support project schedules and field priorities
  • Supporting project managers, superintendents, and field operations teams with survey-related requirements
  • Performing calculations and preparing accurate field notes, reports, quantity information, and survey records
  • Maintaining and coordinating calibration of survey equipment, including GPS, total station, laser, and level instruments
  • Researching land records, survey records, and land titles when required
  • Providing mentorship, training, technical guidance, and accountability to survey staff
  • Ensuring all survey activities are completed in accordance with company policies, safety standards, project requirements, and industry best practices
  • Ensuring survey information is accurate, checked, and suitable before being issued to the field
  • Maintaining organized survey files, records, templates, equipment logs, and project data
  • Supporting project controls, progress tracking, billing quantities, forecasting, and change management through accurate survey data


WHAT YOU BRING
  • Minimum ten (10) years of surveying experience ideally within the civil construction industry; and
  • Minimum five (5) years of drafting experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of previous leadership or supervisory experience managing survey crews or survey operations
  • Proficiency with GPS, total station, laser, and level equipment
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC), Topcon, AutoCAD, Propeller, and drone survey workflows
  • Experience processing drone data, generating surfaces, completing volumetric calculations, and preparing survey deliverables for project teams
  • Ability to interpret and use information from engineering drawings, specifications, maps, models, and field measurements
  • Strong organizational, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, accuracy and quality workmanship
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout British Columbia
  • Technical certification or related surveying education considered an asset
