Job Description:

  • Provides consultation to supervisors in resolving complex administrative issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Manages the personnel, financial, and operational activities of the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Ensures compliance with administrative and regulatory standards within the healthcare facility.
  • Plans, implements, and manages policies, procedures, competencies, educational activities, and quality assurance programs related to the acquisition, decontamination, storage, and sterilization of reusable surgical instrumentation and other medical equipment.
  • Maintains record-keeping systems for processing instruments and equipment, specifications for instruments, assembled trays, quality assurance, case carts, and materials output.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to supervisors, coordinators, and technicians to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and fiscal responsibility.
  • Collaborates with Surgery leadership and staff to meet daily instrumentation needs and acts as a liaison between Central Services and other hospital departments to ensure the availability of necessary equipment for patient care.
  • Establishes and maintains sterilization, safety, and security standards, policies, and procedures for Sterile Processing to ensure compliance with AAMI, AORN, OSHA, CDC, EPA, FDA, Joint Commission, and state and local regulations.
  • Manages various personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, recognition programs, and scheduling time off.
  • Ensures appropriate allocation of personnel to meet staffing and scheduling needs; assists subordinate leaders in resolving associate relation issues.
  • Participates in system-wide committees related to sterilization, decontamination, and disinfection, and ensures compliance with regulatory and national society standards.
  • Assists in the evaluation of new products and patient equipment through membership on various committees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements. [Required]
  • Knowledge of AAMI, IAHCSMM, OSHA, and relevant infection prevention standards [Required]
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation [Required]
  • Ability to manage stresses and handles challenging situations and personalities. [Required]
  • Computer knowledge and skills [Required]
  • BLS [Required]
  • Knowledge or experience with computerized instrument tracking system. [Preferred]

Education:
  • Associate's [Required]
  • Bachelor's [Preferred]

Field of Study:
  • in Surgical Technology, Nursing or health related field

Work Experience:
  • 6+ proven sterile processing experience in a hospital setting [Required]
  • Progressive team leadership experience [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) [Preferred]
  • Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) [Required] OR
