As a Software Development Manager in the SAS Foundation Division99s Runtimes department, you will lead a team of engineers onaData Acceleration team, partnering with managers, technical leads, and strategic partners to deliver high-quality software that improves the performance, scalability, and security of SAS analytics.
You will oversee planning and execution for medium-complexity development projects, including SAS SpeedyStore, which enables faster, more cost-efficient table operations in SingleStore and expands robust data management capabilities for customer data. This role collaborates closely across Advanced Analytics, Visual Analytics, platform teams, andstrategicpartnerSingleStore to help keep Viya fast, reliable, and competitive for customers.
As a Software Development Manager, you will:
- Be responsible for day-to-day team operations and priorities.
- Handle management responsibilities for the team including hiring, training, delegating work assignments, reviewing performance, and giving feedback.
- Understand the career objectives of your team members and support them on their journey to achieve them
- Work with product management and customers to understand requirements.
- Work with developers to scope and refine planned work then break down stories into more granular tasks for scheduling.
- Collaborate with other technical managers to ensure quality and consistency among software components and products.
- Manage and prioritize development projects and regularly communicate project status with upper management.
- Ensure R&D standards and guidelines are followed per established criteria, including adoption of the appropriate technology and architecture standards.
- Drive a continuous improvement culture and push for innovations and process improvements that accelerate team productivity.
- Remain apprised of state of the art and emerging technologies and seek out opportunities to leverage them in our products and processes.
- Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization9s secure software development goals.

Required qualifications
- Bachelor9s degree in computer science, Software Engineering or a related discipline
- Requires a minimum of eight years of related programming or testing experience, including one year of project lead, supervisory or management experience.
- Practical experience with more than one programming language (SAS, C/C++, SQL, Java, Go).
- Experience working with databases
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence
- A strong understanding of how Agile SDLC practices enable a successful team
- Experience leading development and delivery at the enterprise system level.
- Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
