About the role

The Environmental Safety and Health Manager is responsible for implementing, updating and auditing a comprehensive environmental health and safety management system to ensure on the job safety of employees and overall safety and environment compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies best practices and leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices
  • Performs safety audits and inspects facility, machinery, and safety equipment to comply with regulations and to eliminate the recurrence of unsafe acts/conditions
  • Investigates industrial accidents, near-miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine causes, install preventive measures, and manage return-to-work activities
  • Conducts or coordinates worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment
  • Creates and directs disaster preparedness and emergency response plans
  • Provides technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary improvements
  • Facilitates a work environment that supports a safe and healthy culture
  • Performs supervisory duties for the plant nurse position including, but not limited to, hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating and rewarding performance
  • Ensures all safety equipment meets safety regulations and is available and in good working order
  • Ensures all areas used by employees, customers and vendors are free of hazards at all times
  • Leads safety committee responsible for raising awareness of safety concerns and taking appropriate preventive and corrective actions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related field such as Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering
  • 5-7 years progressive safety experience in a manufacturing environment

Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to build trust and confidence with management and supervision
  • Strategic thinking and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate with employees at all levels
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable regulations (OSHA, NFPA)
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Travel
  • Up to 5%
