Respiratory Critical Care Manager

Job Overview:

Provides leadership, supervision, and coordination of Respiratory Care services while ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care throughout critical care and emergency service areas. Oversees Respiratory Care staff, ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures, coordinates daily operations, and supports organizational goals. Functions as the department representative in the absence of the primary supervisor and participates in budget monitoring, staff development, performance management, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an NBRC-approved School of Respiratory Care.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the NBRC required.
  • Current New Jersey Respiratory Care Practitioner License required.
  • Associate Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of advanced respiratory care experience required, including adult/neonatal ventilator management and acute respiratory care.
  • Previous experience in shift coordination, staff supervision, and employee instruction required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Successful completion of all organizational orientation programs.

Scheduling Requirements:
  • Full-Time
  • Day Shift with flexibility to support departmental operational needs.

Essential Functions:
  • Directly supervises Respiratory Care staff and ensures adherence to departmental policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
  • Coordinates respiratory care services in ICU, CCU, CTICU, Emergency Department, and other assigned patient care areas.
  • Assumes responsibility for departmental operations and personnel management in the absence of the Respiratory Director.
  • Ensures daily patient care demands are met through effective staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow management.
  • Provides leadership, mentoring, coaching, counseling, and direction to staff through orientation, direct observation, and performance evaluations.
  • Monitors staff competency, performance, and compliance with departmental and hospital standards.
  • Participates in recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, and retention initiatives.
  • Supports and enforces hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Monitors departmental expenses and assists with budget management, variance reporting, and operational planning.
  • Serves on hospital committees and multidisciplinary teams as delegated by Respiratory Care leadership.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nursing leaders, and ancillary departments to promote quality patient outcomes and continuity of care.
  • Assesses patient care needs utilizing age-specific principles of growth and development to ensure appropriate respiratory care services.
  • Maintains clinical expertise and provides support in critical care situations as necessary.
  • Promotes quality improvement, patient safety, regulatory readiness, and customer service excellence throughout the department.
  • Demonstrates independent decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Leadership & Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership and guidance for all respiratory care personnel.
  • Assists with departmental strategic planning and implementation of operational goals.
  • Maintains departmental productivity and quality metrics.
  • Reviews and updates policies, procedures, and clinical practice standards.
  • Acts as a liaison between Respiratory Care, Nursing, Medical Staff, and Hospital Administration.
  • Facilitates staff education, competency assessments, and professional development activities.

Working Environment:
  • Works in critical care, acute care, and emergency department environments with exposure to communicable diseases and other patient care-related hazards.
  • Approximately 50% of work time may be spent in an office or administrative setting.
  • Must be able to respond effectively to changing priorities, emergency situations, and operational demands.
