Job Description

Role Overview: Manager, Revenue Accounting

Arlington, VA | In-office, Monday-Friday

We are seeking hands-on Manager of Revenue Accounting to manage revenue accounting function. This role will be responsible for managing revenue recognition, ensuring compliance with ASC 606, optimizing financial processes, and partnering cross-functionally to support Costar's continued growth.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in SaaS/software and eCommerce business models, including subscription-based revenue streams revenue accounting, technical accounting background, and experience in scaling revenue accounting operations in a high-growth environment. This role will require alignment of revenue processes and systems for our acquired entities.

The Manager should have a general knowledge Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP") and experience (i) working within a monthly close process, (ii) reviewing and preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, (iii) identifying and improving monthly processes. The Manager should be eager to learn and demonstrate strong communication, time management and organizational skills. The Manager will have a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

This position may get exposure to technical accounting issues and interactions with external auditors related to the close process, account reconciliations and variance analyses.

Revenue Accounting & Compliance:
  • Manage revenue recognition in compliance with ASC 606, ensuring accurate and timely revenue reporting.
  • Manage the review and interpretation of customer contracts, ensuring proper accounting treatment and adherence to revenue policies.
  • Manage process improvements in revenue recognition, billing, and reporting to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance and internal controls related to revenue processes.
  • Partner with external auditors to support revenue-related audit requirements.
  • Manage monthly and quarterly revenue close processes, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper cut-off.
  • Manage revenue-related accounting memos and technical assessments for complex transactions


Cross-functional Collaboration & Leadership:
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Legal, FP&A, and Product teams to evaluate revenue implications of new business models, pricing strategies, and product offerings.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on revenue-related matters, providing insights and recommendations for business decisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing revenue accounting team.
  • Review and interpret SaaS, software, and professional services contracts, ensuring proper revenue treatment and identifying risks.


Systems & Process Optimization
  • Enhance and automate revenue accounting processes leveraging Oracle.
  • Drive scalability in revenue operations to support Costar's continued expansion across global markets.
  • Implement best practices for revenue forecasting and analytics to provide actionable insights to finance and executive leadership.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related from an accredited, not-for-profit University or College.
  • A track record of commitment to prior employers.
  • 7+ years of relevant revenue accounting experience with experience from Big 4 or public accounting firm.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing monthly revenue journal entries and account reconciliations and expertise in ASC 606, revenue recognition.
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and navigate fast-paced.
  • Self-starter with a results-oriented, highly organized approach and a keen sense of urgency.
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.
  • General knowledge of GAAP guidelines and ability to enhance knowledge and apply to a variety of situations.
  • Familiarity with systems and optimizing use of systems to generate data for analyses.


Preferred Qualifications
  • 9+ years of progressive experience in revenue accounting, with at least 1+ years in a manager role.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Process implementation experience.
  • Experience working in a high-growth, global organization.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and drive continuous process improvement.
  • Deep expertise in ASC 606 and revenue recognition within SaaS/software and eCommerce business models, including subscription-based revenue streams.
  • Ability to leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to enhance revenue accounting, improving efficiency, consistency, and documentation quality while maintaining strong controls and professional judgment.

Base Compensation: $116,000.00 - $158,000.00 Annually
