Full Job Description
Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to manage the daily activities of the Retail Pharmacy department within Brookdale Hospital. Additionally, to assist customers with their health care needs by filling prescriptions and providing excellent customer service and counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily workflow regarding the receiving, filling and dispensing of prescriptions for customers in a timely manner.
  • Develop staff to ensure credentials are current, policies and procedures are understood and monitor compliance. Take appropriate performance discipline actions as necessary.
  • Manage costs and assist in development and management of the department budget.
  • Ensure satisfaction by counseling customers with regard to medications filled and being responsive to patient questions.
  • Manage inventory at acceptable levels to fill prescriptions, order supplies as necessary and maintain medication logs to ensure records and dispensed medication are tracked appropriately.
  • Ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of all prescriptions filled by completing Drug Utilization Review and Final Quality Assurance, applicable to state and federal Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Interact with physicians to gain additional information about patient and the prescriptions to be filled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Education necessary for licensure as a New York State Registered Pharmacist.

Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of retail pharmacy experience.
  • Experience managing multiple sites preferred, but not required.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of 340(b) plan regulations required.
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of information.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes.
  • Ability to work within strict time frames and resolute deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations while maintaining a sense of calm.
  • Ability to fully utilize BHMC's electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Licenses, Certifications:
  • NY State registered pharmacist (RPh) is required.
  • Current Board of Pharmacy license.

Physical Requirements:
  • Consistent with that necessary to work in a variety of patient care and office settings.
  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
