Full Job Description
Seeking highly experienced Quality Assurance Manager to manage quality assurance and quality control measures at lumber manufacturing locations across California, Oregon, and Washington. This position is responsible for inspecting materials, auditing manufacturing processes, and coaching mill management teams in best practices to improve profitability. Requires honest and ethical conduct, fostering respectful relationships, and ensuring products meet both grade specifications and customer satisfaction. This position is not remote and is based from our main office in Anderson, California .

About the Position
  • Manage lumber and grade recovery and optimization programs for 14 sawmill locations across California, Oregon, and Washington
  • Work closely with local management teams to improve profitability of mills, and to ensure products meet both grade specification and customer requirements
  • Assure safe workplace practices are followed and promote safety awareness through leading by example
  • Continually train best practices to maintain and optimize equipment to maximize lumber values, grade, and recovery
  • Audit various manufacturing processes to internal specifications. Identify nonconformance, assist with root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Supervisors and Managers across the Company
  • Work closely with mill management and sales teams on process improvements, new product development, and customer feedback issues
  • Effectively and collaboratively work with inspectors from grading agencies
  • Manage lumber quality and grade to maximize value through lumber graders and optimizing scanners
  • Identify, communicate, and troubleshoot production, quality, and grade issues
  • This position requires frequent travel to sawmill locations across California, Oregon, and Washington

Qualifications
  • 5+ years' experience in lumber quality control using optimizing scanners preferred
  • 2 years' supervisory experience in wood products or other manufacturing environment
  • Certified grader in any of the following categories: Commons, Shop, Select, and all NGR grades
  • High degree of knowledge and experience working with optimization technology preferred
  • Experience working with WWPA Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Full understanding of grading association rule book
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a crew
  • Proven commitment to safety and Company policy
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under demanding circumstances
  • Proficient in documentation, workflow, math computation, and computer technology

The general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries is from $125,000 and $160,000 per year, and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to: relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and/or education.
