Under limited direction, the Manager, Purchasing leads a team of buyers responsible for supporting multiple sites and functions across a national footprint. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the day-to-day operational effectiveness of the organization by combining strong attention to detail, analytical rigor, and well-developed interpersonal skills. The Manager, Purchasing drives purchasing excellence through people leadership, process optimization, cost containment initiatives, and close collaboration with the Manager of the Sourcing team and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure contract compliance, continuity of supply, and best overall value for the organization.

Job Description:

Under limited direction, the Manager, Purchasing leads a team of buyers supporting multiple sites and functions across Vitalant's national footprint, helping ensure teams have the critical supplies and resources needed to support donors, employees, and patient care operations. This role combines strong leadership, analytical expertise, and operational focus to drive purchasing excellence through process optimization, cost containment initiatives, and collaboration with sourcing and cross-functional partners. The Manager, Purchasing plays a key role in maintaining continuity of supply, ensuring contract compliance, and delivering the best overall value to support Vitalant's mission and day-to-day operational success.

Compensation: $110,000 - $120,000

This position will work in the Scottsdale, AZ National Headquarters 3 days per week and work from an at-home office 2 days per week.

As the Manager, Purchasing, you'll get to:
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of buyers and sourcing specialists, including recruitment, training, performance management, and employee engagement.
  • Drive purchasing optimization initiatives through process improvement, operational excellence, and data-driven supply chain strategies.
  • Partner with sourcing, warehouse, accounts payable, and cross-functional teams to ensure continuity of supply, efficient material flow, and overall value to the organization.
  • Support sourcing and procurement activities including RFQs, supplier collaboration, contract negotiations, and acquisition of non-contracted products and services.
  • Develop and maintain standardized purchasing processes, tools, scorecards, reporting, and supplier performance metrics.
  • Analyze supplier, category, and operational data to identify trends, improve reporting capabilities, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Manage supplier contract compliance and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve non-compliance issues and improve purchasing effectiveness.
  • Resolve complex supply chain and operational challenges using best practices and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Support budgeting, expense tracking, and operational planning initiatives to improve financial performance and organizational value.
  • Ensure compliance with internal SOPs, regulatory requirements, and quality customer service standards across all activities.


REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Master's degree preferred


LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) or CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare Supply Chain Management environment preferred.


EXPERIENCE

Five years of purchasing experience required. To include:
  • Two years supervisory experience.
  • Experience in healthcare Supply Chain management environment preferred
